I decided to visit Chewton Glen to celebrate my 30th birthday and had an incredible time. I was looking for somewhere special to stay and Chewton Glen definitely did not disappoint. There is a theme of high attention to detail and first class service all throughout, the hotel staff cannot do enough for you. Immaculate grounds, beautiful and clean rooms, fantastic spa, above and beyond staff - I was very lucky to have beautiful sun when I was there so enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine sitting outside on the balcony in one of the Garden rooms overlooking the grounds on the first day and also attended the cooking school on the second day, which was a fantastic experience where a group of 10 of us made fresh pasta, duck ragu and tiramisu. We all then eat our food on a big table outside The Kitchen restaurant with a complimentary glass of wine. On the second day I moved to a Hot Tub Suite which was huge with a personal garden. Bonus that Pizzas can be ordered by room service from The Kitchen. The food within the restaurant for both lunch and dinner is both superb. Maria is a fantastic restaurant host who will look after you very well, I did also extremely appreciate the complimentary birthday celebratory gestures - I had 3 complimentary celebratory desserts in the restaurant across two days as well as cards and chocolates in my room! Thank you all so much for a fantastic time, I’m so glad I picked Chewton Glen as my place to stay and I really hope to be back again soon :)

“Family getaway”

We had an amazing stay at Chewton Glenn. Guy the GM helped organise the break for our 3 generations which we needed. Kristie welcomed us so warmly and ensured she checked in on us every morning and throughout the day. Colin was amazing with the kids bikes and helped us with vegetarian friendly restaurants . Avi looked after the family at breakfast. Ed and Billy were the dream team at The Tree house ensuring we were really comfortable. Every single member of staff was amazing and the service planets were exceptional. Highly recommend

A lovely stay overall, though not without a few inconsistencies. Housekeeping felt uneven—two evenings without turndown, items not replenished, and a stained loo seat suggested a lapse in attention to detail. Saturday dinner was impacted by a large group of non-residents who moved into the bar, overwhelming the space and shifting the atmosphere. Service struggled under pressure; while the meal began well, the main course arrived too late to be enjoyable. Breakfast the following morning was similarly stretched. That said, there is much to enjoy. The setting is beautiful, the atmosphere warm, and the Treehouse concierge team were excellent—helpful, attentive, and a real highlight. The new dog policy is a great addition, and the refurbished lounges are a pleasure to spend time in. The overall redesign has lifted the hotel considerably, and breakfast is now a more elegant experience. A small suggestion: adding a few outdoor heaters, blankets, or chimineas would make the bar patio far more inviting as the sun goes down and may help ease pressure on the indoor space. Another small request: a doggy foot shower would be a thoughtful addition to help protect those lovely interiors. Overall, a charming stay with some operational details to refine.

We recently stayed at Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa and came away feeling quite conflicted. The property itself is undeniably beautiful, and overall service was acceptable. However, the food and attention to detail fell well below expectations—particularly at this price point (circa £900 per night for our suite). We started with a light lunch which was disappointing. The smoked salmon sandwich was soggy and made with basic, processed white bread—something you simply wouldn’t expect here. The Caesar salad with shrimp was mediocre at best. Dinner in the suite was even more frustrating. We ordered burgers medium and medium rare, only to be called back 10 minutes later and told this wasn’t possible. The explanation—that they couldn’t guarantee the quality or safety of the meat as it wasn’t made in-house—was surprising for a hotel of this calibre. When the food arrived, the fries were stone cold and the burgers were overcooked to the point of being tough and unappetising. Dessert didn’t recover things. The panna cotta was overly firm and lacking flavour, the strawberries were completely tasteless, and while the ice cream was fine, it felt indistinguishable from something you’d buy at a supermarket. What was most concerning, however, was the room cleanliness. After moving the sofa slightly to see the TV, we found visible dust and cobwebs underneath—suggesting the room had not been properly cleaned. Breakfast was another letdown. The “California eggs” came with watery avocado, soggy bread, and cold eggs—again, far below expectations. It’s particularly disappointing as we’ve previously dined at The Kitchen (James Martin) here, which has always been excellent—making this experience feel even more inconsistent. On a positive note, the spa treatments were very good and the spa staff were fantastic—arguably the highlight of the stay. Overall, while the setting is lovely, the experience does not justify the price, and there are clear issues with food quality, consistency, and housekeeping that need addressing.
