“Comfortable accommodation ( beware the hill!)”

A comfortable hotel albeit a little quirky. Choose a room with a sea view, you won’t be disappointed. The full Cornish breakfast was very good. There’s limited parking

Very disappointed. Arrived at 3pm shown to our room which had not cleaned or changed from previous guest staying !!! We were offered another smaller room, we had paid £195 for a superior double Seaview room. This definitely was not that. Showed the member of staff all confirmation of booking who then found us another room. Not much different but it did have a nice see view. With a brown roller blind in the window and scuffed wallpaper. After our evening meal, we sat in a very tiny lounge area with our friends. At 9pm the bar was shut and the staff disappeared. Other guests who had been out for the evening found they were locked out and their key card would not work, we tried to help but we couldn’t get out either. Eventually found a key in a lock which unlocked the door from the inside. This happened 3 times that evening. Thank God there wasn’t a fire!! Still no staff to be seen until breakfast the following morning. On going to bed we turned the lights off and said good night. Each couple had a disappointing story to say about their stay. And we all agreed this hotel is the ‘Fawlty Towers’ of Cornwall, NOT A STAY TO BE REPEATED.

We have just visited hotel Penzance for 3 nights. It was our return visit second year running as we had such a lovely time last year. I also thanked the team last year with my email. This year it was a very different experience. So I will come to the points. I read the reviews on trip advisor before our arrival both years and made me think if they are really true as last year our stay was so lovely. I must admit within a year there is a big difference. The room was ok but the bathroom needs a immediate attention Room No12. The shower screen only half left (water pouring to the floor) and toilet is not attached properly. It was dirty and our bin wasn’t changed either. The water on shower was very cold most of the times. I didn’t want to ruin our experience and there was probably not a lot they could of changed within our 3 night stay. So I am just letting you know now as why the hotel has had such a bad year and will be closed between now and Christmas. We will not return in a rush and will find another place to stay on our next visit to Cornwall. Also the booking experience was not clear as we booked ROOM ONLY and 1 meal either breakfast or dinner was included. Also very unclear as to service charge as when I signed the receipt after our meal I did not include service. On our check out it was a hassle to get final bill (we were overcharged ) and bank account was charged without approval. So I think the whole team needs to really sit down have a word with maintenance team (good chance to it while closed) and staff how to make hotel more inevitable rather than just charge for everything and think all is well. Good point was the food at dinner time. Really tasty and well presented. restaurant only had 2 tables booked for so service was quick. I wrote to the hotel as well but never got reply.
