Just got back from a 2 night stay at the Gin Trap Inn with our Labrador. The place truly is dog friendly with the dog brought his own sausage for breakfast and treats on a plate for evening meal. The cottage we had was beautifully furnished and the staff were warm and friendly as well as being efficient. The breakfast and evening meals were of high quality and food was well cooked and well presented. We hope to visit again

This was a booking we hoped would restore our confidence in Chestnut Inns for short stays with dogs. Our previous stay at a newly acquired property was not reviewed publicly, and we had begun to consider other groups. The lovely Gin Trap with its exceptionally lovely staff, set the bar again. We are active retired adults who travel with 2 medium dogs, like nice food and nice rooms. A little courtyard space is always appreciated for that moment when the dog needs just to pop out, and finding shoes, coats etc is just too hard. We are happy to pay the extra charge for having dogs, and assume this goes on more thorough cleaning. If not, then it’s an expensive water bowl to use during the stay. The room was practical and comfortable, shabby chic being conveniently fashionable. Tea and coffee plus fresh milk to be picked up are appreciated, as breakfast is relatively late at 8.30. Dinner was good, and breakfast was very good. Although more than half the tables had dogs, all were well behaved and waited patiently. A few tables had young children who were also well behaved and seemed happy with their food choices. Anyone wanting a dog or child free area could be accommodated I think. One of the best features is the lovely local advice from a cheery waitress who directed us to a quick walk round the block for early morning and last thing at night. Returning soon with a friend and happy to say Chestnut inns will remain on my trusted list, with the Gin Trap my favourite for this part of Norfolk.

This was our second visit in a week and after a disappointing experience with Sunday lunch we decided to give it another try. Our first visit was not very successful as my soup arrived with so much salt it was inedible. In fairness to the staff they apologised and agreed with me that, indeed, the soup was much too salty and the rest of the batch was thrown away. We the waited a long time for a substitute starter which, in fairness, was very good. Another long wait was on the cards (40 mins) for our main courses. We decided to forego pudding and some money was taken off our bill. Then to our second visit this evening when another 45 minute wait for starters occurred. My husband chased up and profuse apologies ensued when we were assured there was a problem with the ticketing machine! The Manager assured us there would be some adjustment to our bill. From thereon in food did arrive quite swiftly. The bill arrived minus a service charge with no other explanation or adjustment. This establishment needs to really get to grips with its service and customer relations as well as communication with the kitchen. At the end of the day it is about the whole experience when you go out for a meal and for service to fail twice in one week only makes me think as to how many other people experience this?

“Disappointing  stay”

I purchased a weekend package for my Partner & her twin sister as a birthday present. the package included Dinner, Bed & breakfast for 2 nights, this was done so the only additional cost for them would be any drinks purchased. Their view of the room was that it was "OK" but decoration was a bit tired and was a Disappointing  as its is supposed to be a 4*hotel, however the food was good. On checking out they were surprised to receive a bill for "an additional service charge" and that unknown to us there was a spend limit on dinner of £30. This was a big surprise and these were not highlighted to me at the time of booking. I have since contacted the hotel with 2 emails (as no-one answered the phone when I called) to raise this matter with them, but they have not responded.
