We went as part of a coach tour and I acknowledge that this affects the standard as opposed to booking a room. The hotel is 4* but in the UK this basically reflects the amenities on offer rather than how everything works! The hotel is in a spectacular position on the cliffs and seems beautifully clean. The staff were brilliant but we saw little evidence of "management" and much of the time when concerns were raised there was little enthusiasm to pass things on or get things done. We had a large room with a good bed and with a huge bathroom. The bathroom smelled of sewage [though apparently spotless]. I mentioned this and nothing seemed to be done. I put a complaint in writing and a member of staff came up and tipped some liquid down the traps and the toilet. This helped but the smell returned in a day or so. The curtains on the main window were ripped and on the side window did not cover the window properly so that the light got in [as it will] from about 430am. The TV often pixilated which the staff put down to the weather!! Entertainment in the function room was fine but the room smelled of damp. Food: Breakfast was a buffet and was fine; plenty of choice. My real "beef" was at dinner in that we are vegetarian and the standard was not the same as the normal people who all enjoyed their food. We had soup on three occasions. Mushroom was delicious but lukewarm, asparagus was like wallpaper paste and lukewarm. Much of the other food was lukewarm - the "warm bread rolls" never were of course although we mentioned the temperature of everything to the waiting staff nothing was done till the later arrival of a manager. Tomato soup was subsequently hot and delicious. The lasagne was cold and dull with a bit of bread. There was another Italian dish in a cream sauce which was absolutely delicious but [and you'll be ahead of me] it was almost cold. All the normal people got a proper plate and choice of food nicely served with potatoes and vegetables on occasions in contrast we just got a dull bowl of something. Waldorf salad was excellent. As an amusement - if you will - the carpet on the second floor was a delightful pattern of wavy lines which gave an optical illusion of sea waves!
