“Fantastic Experience a must visit”

What a stunning piece of history The Grand Hotel Scarborough is. We stayed from 2nd–4th May in Room 322, and I honestly have to disagree with a lot of the negative reviews on here. Yes, the room was a little dated — but the building is around 160 years old, and that is part of its charm. More impo… more

“Amazing place!”

We were sceptical about extending our stay in Scarborough in this iconic hotel but didn’t need to worry at all. The building is amazing, as were the staff, entertainment and executive room. We will definitely return and the location can’t be beaten. Well done and thank you! Jo and Del

“Vastly improved”

Came here for 1 night. Been many times over the years but stopped due to it going down hill. Tried one nighter last week and was pleasantly surprised. On booking in was greeted by friendly and professional staff. Sorry I did not get her name because nothing was too much trouble taking time to expla… more

“Adequate for the money.”

Where do I start, staff are perfunctuary, no more no less. I have always wanted to stay here, as I've read very mixed reviews, for the £184 for 2 for 2 nights with breakfast, in a standard twin room, this is my honest opinion. I was impressed with the staircase, reminded me of the titanic, very gra… more

We stayed from 2nd–4th May in Room 322, and I honestly have to disagree with a lot of the negative reviews on here. Yes, the room was a little dated — but the building is around 160 years old, and that is part of its charm. More importantly, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was large and clean, and although the bath tub was a little worn in places, it really did not bother us at all. It is a historic hotel, not a brand-new show home, and if you embrace it for what it is, you will appreciate it far more. We did not have a sea view, but we knew that when booking and were perfectly happy because there are so many lovely places around the hotel where you can sit and enjoy the views. Just outside our room was a beautiful lobby area where we spent time simply soaking up the atmosphere of this awesome old building. Take the time to look up at the ceilings and architecture — it really is fascinating. We even explored a little and found parts of the old air system that would once have been used to send messages around the hotel back in the day. Tea and coffee supplies were plentiful as you can help yourself in the lobby areas, although I brought my own because I am fussy with coffee! Breakfast was absolutely fine and there was plenty of choice — full English with bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, beans, tomatoes and, much to my husband’s delight, black pudding too. There was also toast, cereals, yoghurt, croissants and fruit, so enough for everyone’s tastes. Some people complaining about things like thin bread honestly need a reality check, have two slices instead of one! What truly made this break special for us was the staff. In my opinion, they deserve medals and a commendation from the King for the patience and professionalism they show every single day. We witnessed some incredibly rude and often inebriated guests speaking to staff in ways that were honestly shocking. These people are simply doing their jobs and they deserve respect like anyone else. Every single member of staff we encountered was courteous, hardworking and friendly. The gentleman on reception with the beard dealt calmly and professionally with some very difficult people and did not deserve the negativity thrown at him. The young chap on reception when we arrived was brilliant too, keep going, you are doing an amazing job. The lady working the bar near the lovely outside seating area could not do enough for people, and the entertainment team were talented and had the patience of saints! Management should take note, your staff are a credit to you and deserve recognition. And finally… the little ghostly experience! My husband does not believe in ghosts, but the picture in our room randomly fell off the wall and the tap turned itself on at one point too! Thankfully it seemed like a friendly spirit because we were not in bed when the picture came down! It honestly just added to the character and charm of the place. If you stay here, embrace the history, appreciate the character, and most importantly remember your manners. People matter, especially those working hard to make your stay enjoyable. We had a wonderful break and will absolutely visit again, next time we are bringing the dog too!
