We recently stayed at Halifax Hall Hotel and it was absolutely fantastic. The hotel is perfectly positioned, especially for visiting family in Sheffield, and the whole experience exceeded our expectations. The staff were so lovely and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The breakfast was amazing – really high quality with a great selection, and everything tasted fresh and well prepared. Our room and all the amenities were excellent, and considering the brilliant price, the value for money is outstanding. Honestly, there isn’t a single thing I could fault about our stay. We will definitely be staying here every time we visit family in Sheffield from now on. I’m so glad we’ve found this place, and I’ve already recommended it to the rest of my family – they can’t wait to stay too!

This hotel came up on a booking site. Needed 3 rooms for a family party in Sheffield. Was fairly cheap so thought would be fairly basic. How wrong I was. This is a charming little hotel. Evening meal was fantastic quality with amazing service. Room lovely with an expresso machine. Luxurious large shower room with lovely products. In morning lovely continental selection with hot food cooked to order. Absolutely delicious. One of party vegan had couple of options on evening menu, in morning they were happy to provide vegan spread for toast and alternative milks. Would definitely stay again if in area.

“Excellent hotel, great location and little touches set it aside”

My partner and I spent one night at this lovely hotel at the beginning of November. We were attending the fireworks/illumination event at the nearby botanical gardens and this hotel was perfectly placed for easy access. There is ample parking at the hotel at the rooms are small and cosy, yet well equipped for a short stay. I particularly liked the coffee pod machine and the ‘complimentary stations’ on each floor which had supplies of milk, coffee pods, biscuits and chocolate. Wonderful addition and much appreciated. The breakfast was excellent as it was made to order (small selection from a menu) so was fresh and hot, unlike many places which offer buffet breakfasts. It was very reasonably priced, beds were comfortable. Hotel quiet and in a great location.

“The photos don't tell the whole story”

I stayed on business and I am reviewing it as a business hotel. It's not somewhere that I would go for a romantic break because of its surroundings. It is a former hall of residence on a university campus. There is a lovely old historic building with modern rooms added. Ugly lego style university buildings are a few yards away in most directions, with messy bits of paper stuck in windows. The marketers of this venue realises this shortcoming and you don't see it in the photos, which explains why a few reviewers mention it in angry terms. It is a bit disingenuous. They compensate with sweeteners which elevate this as a business stay proposiition above, say, a Premier Inn. It is cheaper for a start. There is a quality coffee machine in the room and you can help yourself to as many coffee pods as you want. There are treat stations with an endless supply of quality biscuits and Tunnocks teacakes. These are literally sweeteners. The shower in my room was large with great water pressure and good quality soaps. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the staff that I interacted with were pleasant and professional. The bed was poor, and it is probably the most important element in a room. Breakfast was good enough, but felt well measured by an accountant before it left the kitchen. One small and rather basic sausage, for example. Halifax Hall is in a leafy suburban area a couple of miles from the city centre, so it's a great location for business travellers. It was very quiet. Because of the brurtalistic architecture around the hotel, and the basic setup of the bar and public areas, this is not really a good leisure proposition. As a business stay the positives mounted up and I would recommend it.
