“Lovely Hotel”

Very relaxing hotel, nice furnishings, fabulous food. Great location. Lovely room, St Peters. Super outdoor space which we couldn't use due to poor weather, but will do when we come back ! Thank you to Max for all his local knowledge.

We neglected to make our reservation in a timely manner, but the staff worked hard to find us a lovely table in the bar area and treated us like honoured guests. The food was excellent, and my husband received a well-earned and always welcome compliment on his dining attire! We were there the same time as a family wedding, though not guests, but the manager made sure we knew he appreciated our sartorial efforts. We had a good laugh about that. We'll definitely come back again. Our stay was outstanding.

“Centrally located country house hotel”

We received a friendly welcome at Reception and help carrying our bags. Our room (Room 8) was on the first floor reached by a flight of stairs (no lift); the window opened, which was a plus, and there was a large armchair, a desk and stool. No fridge in the room. The bed was very high; I’m 5ft 6in but I had difficulty getting up onto it. My husband who is over 6ft could comfortably sit on the edge of it, but I couldn’t. I didn’t like the fact that the TV was on and playing music when we walked into the room. The TV was on a wall at the side of the bed, so I had to be careful when standing up from the bed not to hit my head on it. The bathroom had a large walk-in shower, which is important for me; but the toilet was fitted in a tight space between the wall and the washbasin unit. The toilet roll holder was missing in action, so you had to remember to place the loo roll within reach. The sink drained very slowly. The wifi connection was good and reliable, the room was quiet and clean, and the hotel is in a good central location. We had breakfast in the hotel on both mornings and dinner on our first evening. The dining room is an elegant space, and the staff were positive and efficient. For dinner I had beetroot salad followed by chicken schnitzel; both courses were very large, and there were (very good) chips too. My husband had pigeon breast and crab linguine. We shared a chocolate parfait, which was light and not too large, and we also had a bottle of English rosé from Kent, which we enjoyed. Breakfast was also in an elegant room, this time decorated in restful apple green with (bizarrely) a glitter ball. My husband had the 'full English' minus the black pudding and baked beans, and I had the maple syrup pancakes, which came with two enormous slices of bacon. I can only imagine the portion sizes are designed to set one up for a day out fishing for trout or hunting small animals. On the second day I had a selection from the ‘full English’, including the black pudding; my husband had the trout and scrambled egg, which was a popular choice seeing we were in Stockbridge.

“Great stay - comfortable rooms, welcoming reception staff”

We have eaten here on a few occasions and love the garden area in the Summer. This time we we stayed at the hotel, but dined elsewhere as it had been organised by friends. What a wonderful surprise. Attractively decorated rooms which were all very practical and comfortable. Good reception staff who were very helpful. Great breakfast to get us all moving the next morning with everyone going in different directions!
