I've been organising fundraising dinners in Sunderland for Sunderland Primary Schools Football Association. Saturday 25th April was the first such dinner I have hosted at the Grand Hotel. It certainly won't be the last. Everything about the venue was superb. The three ladies I dealt with whilst organising the event (Leanne, Jayne and Charlotte) were very professional and great to work with, both in the lead up to the night and on the night itself. The function suite was beautiful and the room set out exactly as I specified (tables where I asked them to be and all tables set with the correct number of place settings). A small point but one that made my job a lot easier on the night. The two course dinner was absolutely beautiful. The soup was tasty and hot (this isn't always the case with mass produced meals) and the beef melted in your mouth). The staff who served the food were super efficient and very friendly. They served food and cleared tables with the minimum of fuss and I've never known 160 meals be served, eaten and cleared so quickly which allowed the night to flow without any fuss. We paid for table service on the night. The girls who served the tables were excellent and ensured that guests were served without having to leave their seats and that there were no queues at the bar throughout the evening which again helped the flow of the evening. Bar staff were also very polite and efficient and the whole team at the Grand ensured that our special event went like clockwork with many guests commenting that it had been the best of the 13 nights we have organised which is a massive compliment given that we have organised some excellent dinners over the years. My wife and I stayed overnight at the hotel. Our room was exceptional and I only wished that we had stayed for two nights. As organiser of these dinners for SPSFA, I am happy to say that we have found a new home for our event and that I have found a venue for a personal big birthday bash next year. Many thanks to all of the staff at the grand for helping to make our event so special.

Attended a fundraiser for SPSFA on Saturday 25th April. First time the event has been held at this Hotel and I hope its not the last. The staff were first class, very well organised. The banquet room had that wow factor, tables spaciously arranged and well decorated. The service for the meals was fantastic, they made a difficult job look easy. I have to single out the chef because that meal was one of the best we have ever had, thank you so much. We had waitress service so no waiting at at the bar, the prices were reasonable when you consider the location. A great night had by all, highly recommended. The Grand Hotel certainly lived up to its name. Well done everyone and thanks again.

I recently stayed at The Grand Hotel in Sunderland for a work event in the area and there were a few positives to highlight: The location is fantastic, right on the seafront with lovely views, and check‑in was quick and straightforward. The hotel also has its own car park with plenty of spaces, which made arrival really easy. However, I struggled quite a lot to actually find my room. The directions given at check‑in were minimal and the signage around the hotel wasn’t very clear. I ended up walking around almost the entire hotel and had to return to reception twice for help. My room itself was spacious, with a very comfortable bed and a large bathroom featuring both a separate bath and shower. Unfortunately, the room had a really unpleasant odour, which made it hard to relax and impacted the overall experience. I ordered room service one evening; it arrived promptly and the staff were friendly. The food was okay, but nothing particularly special considering the price. Overall, it was an average stay with a few positives, but due to the odour in the room alone, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
