We have just returned from a one night stay at the Lensbury Resort. This is our 3rd visit, the first being in 2012 and the 2nd two years ago. The ample free parking, use of the swimming pool, pretty location and right price when found on a comparison site, has always been a draw to this hotel for us. However, over the years the lounge, restaurant, bedrooms, furniture, fixtures and fittings, grounds, swimming pool outside area and general look of the hotel, have started to look tired and very worn, and appears that very little money has been spent since it's new owners took over a while ago. However, the bar, restaurant and conservatory are currently closed due to a refurbishment. Currently, all meals and drinks are being taken in the smaller members room, which has itself had a recent refurbishment, and has been done to a very high standard. The breakfast was excellent, the best we have had for a long time anywhere, and the service from the staff on our arrival in the restaurant was very attentive, friendly and informative, as the cooked breakfast is currently cooked to order, and layout is different from usual. The staff on reception were also very friendly and helpful and imediately brought an additional duvet to our room when requested. We appeared to have had an upgrade on our room too, which was well equiped, clean, comfortable and very quiet (as requested). The grounds of the hotel have always been in a great location, overlooking "Teddinton Lock", but they have now appeared to also of had a tidy up, and looked particularly attractive. If the members room referbishment is anthing to go by, then the new referbishment will be of a very high standard and we cant wait to come back and have a look. Hopefully, the refurbishment of other areas, if not already carried out (as we did'nt have time to find out), will also be done. All in all, we had a great one night stay at the Lensbury, the best in 14 years and would highly reccomend it.

Second visit. All looked forward to it. Refurbishment underway with restaurant and bar closed. Was not concerned as it confirmed that there was another space available that was a bar and restaurant. Second visit. All looked forward to it. Refurbishment underway with restaurant and bar closed. Was not concerned as it confirmed that there was another space available that was a bar and restaurant. New space was the existing cafe for the gym. Completely different space. Squashed in, no view of the gardens and conservatory. People in gym kit. A very different feel. We booked a meal and service was good but the food was way under par. Before refurbishment you accessed the restaurant and bar through double doors in the main reception. There was soft seating for chatting and coffee, a restaurant all with views of the gardens and the Thames. Now you are all crammed in with no views. Our rooms were in an outer building that meant that we had to ensure that we took coats for dinner. Not what we expected at all and the overnight stay cost around £1000.

“Overpriced and small drinks”

I went as a guest with a friend and was so shocked at the prices of a cup of tea and coffee. Literally a small mug given of both, no tea pot and the mugs were not even full. I know memberships are pricey but to charge that amount for drinks is ridiculous.
