Had no complaints about the room, clean and comfortable and hotel staff friendly and helpful. We ordered 6 meals off the menu first night which seemed a good deal, we were not expecting too much but did expect to get what we ordered. Not 1 meals was correct. Chips instead of mash, dry bun and not brioche, salad replaced peas, fish that I doubt had never swam as a fish! all this would not have been so bad if someone had explained some ingredients were hard to get at the moment but when we said we were not happy an argumentative cook told us to put in a negative review if not happy. We did refuse to pay mainly due to the attitude and rudeness of the cook and uneaten meals. We did not have breakfast due to the poor evening meal. Restaurant was comfortable so it was a pity food did not live up to it. The Swan down the road has good food.

I liked my large bedroom - it was clean and spacious. There was plenty of parking. Breakfast was good and the room was good value. Staff pleasant. Point for development: There wasnt any soap in the room with Covid about please do invest in some tiny bars even if it means adding a couple of £ to the bill. There were shampoo sachets but nearly impossible to open. Overall good.

“Tired and worn around the edges.”

Stayed here for one night on the 12th June. On arrival I discovered that the hotel is on a busy main road (more of that later) and doesn't actually have its own car park. You need to drive beyond the hotel and locate the local leisure centre/gym which sits behind the hotel. Here you can park your car in a large car park which is protected by CCTV. The walk to the hotel is a mater of yards from here. On entering the reception are it appears a tad dated. The receptionist was pleasant though with a welcoming smile which she maintained when she told me there was no bar or restaurant on a Sunday. Apparently this was a staff thing, whatever that meant and had been like that for some time. This wasn't mentioned when I made the booking! So no food or beer for me then. I was given the key to room 129 on the first floor. On entering I discovered it was at the front of the hotel and overlooking the main road. It was even with the windows closed very noisy. I returned to Reception and managed to get a room swap to room 105 on the other side of the corridor. Bargain I thought. Well not exactly. The room was away from the main road so quieter but my view was now the back of the next door sport centre, a NHS testing centre and a bin store. Lovely. The room itself was however a good size with double bed and table and chairs. That's the good bit. Unfortunately like the rest of the hotel it was tired and in desperate need of a bit of TLC and updating. The furniture was old and worn, the carpet was stained and marked and the bed base and mattress badly worn and stained. The bathroom was actually quite clean but it did have a shower curtain. What? A shower curtain. How very 1970s. Needless to say I didn't spend much time in the room or the hotel for that matter. More a place to just get your head down really. I did sleep OK as the stained mattress was in fact quite comfortable but the walls between the rooms are paper thin so hearing everything in the room next door stopped me sleeping really well. I didn't try the breakfast in the morning as unfortunately I had read a few negative reviews and it was £11.95 more. I opted for a 99p pot noodle that I'm sure was just as nutritious. All in all not the best of hotels but ok as an emergency sleep stop if you can't find anything else. I for one won't be back.
