We stayed for one night in the hotel as we were attending a family birthday party downstairs in a private room. There’s a lovely bar, which was very busy at 5pm on a wet Saturday evening. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the staff working in the private room were excellent given there were 18 of us all ordering from the main menu. They were very efficient with drinks and food. The food was very good and we all enjoyed what we’d eaten. Our room was right at the back of the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to find two very comfortable double beds with glass doors dividing them. The bathroom was quite narrow and a little tired but for one night, it was perfectly functional. Our room was quiet until 8am when staff were emptying bottles into the bins. Luckily we were already awake. There were plenty of plug sockets, mugs, a decent selection of tea and coffee. We had two tv’s, a dressing table with plug sockets and a mirror above it, great for when using a hairdryer. The wardrobe and chest of drawers had ample storage space. The curtains could be thicker as in summer light would stream in from sun up. Check out at 10am is a little early in our opinion though. Breakfast in the morning was in a large room upstairs, there was a decent choice of continental options with a good hot menu. Staff were professional and friendly. We both enjoyed our two different breakfasts and it was nice that we didn’t have to make our own tea and coffee from machines, that’s becoming a bit of a rarity these days. We have stayed here before and found it comfortable and clean, we would stay again when next in the area. The location is good, parking is £1 an hour as a close by car park with it being free from 6pm on Saturday evening into Sunday.

I arrived at The Bear Hotel after a long walk through the woods—very charming location, I must say. Upon entry, I was immediately impressed by the warm, rustic charm and the welcoming scent of porridge wafting from the kitchen. I didn’t have a reservation (oops), but the staff were kind enough to accommodate me. 🐻 Room: Tried three beds in my room. One was too firm, one too soft, but the third? Just right. Slept like a baby (bear). Clean, cozy linens and a window overlooking the garden. Woke up to the sound of birds—not bad at all. Dining: Room service brought three bowls of porridge (odd, but appreciated). First was scalding, second ice-cold, but the third was chef's kiss. Perfect temperature, hint of cinnamon, comforting texture. Clearly made with love. Furniture: There were three chairs in the lounge area. The largest was too stiff, the next sank like a marshmallow, and the smallest—while just right—sadly didn’t survive my enthusiastic lounging. I may have accidentally broken it. Sorry about that. 🙈 Service: Hospitality was mostly great, although I did wake up to three understandably upset guests standing over me. I might have slept in their room by mistake. Minor mix-up. We all had a laugh once the initial growling stopped. Overall: A quaint, storybook-worthy stay. Perfect for solo travelers with a taste for adventure (and porridge). Docking one star for chair durability and the abrupt wake-up, but would absolutely return—next time, with a booking! Tip: Ask for the room with the comfy middle bed. Trust me. 😉 From Goldilocks
