Our experiences here seem to be all over the place over the last two years. We love the setting and garden and live close by but the food can be random depending on the day. Today our burger was missing onion rings, the tempura broccoli still had some batter a bit raw/gooey on it, chunky chips were undercooked, gyzas were dry and cracking (freezer burnt or old?) and the sugar snap pea salad thing on top looked days old. I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to be eaten? Would the chef eat that? If not then don’t put it on? If you’re going to try and be fancy with garnish, make it at least look like it’s not old and dried out. If it’s meant to be edible, make it edible! Or just don’t bother. I’d honestly rather just have the main food without the faff than n top if it’s not serving any purpose with the lack of attention given to it. My biggest gripe was the side of vegetables. We’d ordered this before and it was brilliant. But this time they had lots of brown edged cabbage in it and I think this highlights a real lack of care and attention. A cabbage is 80p max, I don’t see why they’d serve old cabbage here that has been prepped, left to be exposed to oxygen, go brown and then cooked/served. Just chop up a new cabbage? This is a prime location with elevated prices to boot. Having worked in this industry I can understand certain failings and cost aspects accounted for happening but browned lettuce leaves and green veg is a big disregard as the produce is cheap relative to the cost of the portion and profit margin. It just says to me ‘we don’t care, have the prepped crap left in the fridge we should probably be throwing away’. The small details that cost very little to address ruin an experience for the customers that are paying a £60+ bill on food alone. Outside of this, the staff are always friendly and great. The location is perfect. But there’s clearly issues going on with the kitchen that make an experience you want to find comfortingly consistent as a regular just becoming more inconsistent and frustrating.
