“Excellent hotel and staff”

Excellent location. Walking distance into city centre. Lovely clean rooms and relaxed atmosphere. Every member of staff we spoke to were very friendly, Staff at breakfast and bar staff were extremely helpful. Would definitely recommend and would go back.

Stayed here for a night in July 2026. There are a few parking spaces at the hotel and when those are full there is - at weekends - a school car park a few steps from the hotel is available for a fee. The hotel is beautiful inside, and feels like an old hotel in a good way. The breakfast room and bar feel like you are in a film set. Our room was large and spacious and elegantly decorated. All of the little things you might expect were there, a fridge, an ironing board, etc. There were both USB and USB-C charging ports. We were staying in a room in a building across the road from the main building. There was no lift in that building - or at least not one we saw - but it was a beautiful location. We had cocktails in the bar which were lovely, and breakfast the next morning, which was a large and plentiful buffet with a hot food option to order from the menu. The hotel is a ten or fifteen minute walk in York. Would definitely stay here again

This hotel is in a beautiful building & I really like the location. It's about a 12-minute walk from the station & very easy to find. I stay here a few times a year & that's because it's great. The staff are almost always lovely - especially the very smiley Caitlin from the Reception team, as she always goes that extra step to make every stay special. The rooms are of an older style, which is fine, but does make them feel a little dark, but they are spacious & always clean. The restaurant is lovely & Victor always makes the breakfast experience a very pleasant one. He is very smart & professional, & he always tries to help people who have not stayed there before. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the evening service often falls short when compared to the rest of the hotel. The food takes much longer than it should - as do the drinks, & the starters often come out at the same time as the mains. There is nowhere near as much quality or engagement in the evening as there is in the morning. This really is a shame & a missed opportunity in my opinion as the menu, surroundings & potential are there to make this one of the best evening meal experiences in York.

This was our first visit to the Elmbank although not our first visit to York or indeed a Hilton Hotel. Like most Hotels we couldn’t check in till 2pm so had a 2 hour wait so we dropped the car off and walked into York City Centre which is about a 10-15 minute walk. Parking is at a premium (we were blocked in on our final day) so it is hit and miss if you get a hotel parking space, also there is an £18 daily charge which is by far the most expensive I’ve paid where the Hotel does not offer free parking. On checking in which was done quickly we went to our room. I have to say its probably the smallest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in (Room 203 for your information) although it was clean and tidy the lack of space was quite Claustrophobic. For the amount paid we would have expected a decent size room. Also, we found that our Safe was not working, a light bulb was out and there were not enough Towels, surely Rooms are given a once over before new guests arrive? There was a fridge but the only drinks available were chargeable, not even a complimentary bottle of water! We didn’t use the restaurant but did have a drink from the bar. There is a lack of choice of ales and the bottled beer prices are exorbitant even for a Hotel. The staff were friendly and looked smart. The layout and decor in the hotel is exceptional and does have a old world feel about it, however we wouldn’t stay at this particular hotel if we revisited York for the reasons given and would now question staying in other ones this chain offered because of it.
