We stayed at the Novotel in York while celebrating our birthdays, and had an amazing experience from start to finish. Check-in was smooth, and a special thanks to Stash, who was incredibly helpful and patient, showing us two rooms while we decided on an upgrade. He also kindly arranged a welcome drink for us which was a lovely touch. We stayed in Room 154, a suite, which was perfect for our family — really spacious, with a separate TV area and a big bathroom. I would definitely recommend this room for families who need a bit more space. The hotel was spotless, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We loved the bar area, especially the small kids’ nook with books and toys — such a thoughtful feature for families. We also received complimentary breakfast for our birthdays, which was excellent — a huge selection of hot food, cereals, fresh fruit, juices, yoghurts, and cheese. It was so varied and high quality, it genuinely made us feel like we were on holiday. The swimming pool was very clean, but it’s worth noting that swimming times need to be booked, as there are classes on some mornings. I’d definitely recommend booking as soon as you check in so you don’t miss out. Rekha was fantastic — warm, smiley, and so helpful when it came to feeding our children. Nina, one of the cleaners, was also wonderful and always quick to bring anything we needed. There was one small issue where our room hadn’t been cleaned, but it was handled brilliantly. Even at around 8pm, Bikas came straight away and sorted it — he was polite, kind, and did a great job. On the day we left, we asked for some milk for the kids, and Pawan kindly packed us some milk and snacks for the journey, which was a really thoughtful touch. Lily was also incredibly helpful throughout our stay, and a big thank you to Jacques as well — we had a lovely conversation with him, and he was super friendly and helpful. Just a small note — parking at the hotel is £18 per day. Overall, a brilliant stay with outstanding service — we’d happily return!

“Good all round hotel.”

Great location only a short walk from the city centre. Car park is a plus. Friendly and helpful staff at all times. Rooms are quiet, spacious with tea making facilities, clean and tidy. Bar area is nice and restaurant food of a good standard. Loss of one mark for no other reason than the bed was as… more

Great location only a short walk from the city centre. Car park is a plus. Friendly and helpful staff at all times. Rooms are quiet, spacious with tea making facilities, clean and tidy. Bar area is nice and restaurant food of a good standard. Loss of one mark for no other reason than the bed was as hard as concrete (but not as bad as premier inns beds). Unfortunately hotels of any type these days seem to only provide hard beds.

“Wouldn’t come again”

Lovely staff just not enough of them. No chance of checking into your room at 3 - they’re not ready and no one can tell you why. I’d book elsewhere unless you fancy sitting in reception with your bags and heading straight out to dinner not having freshened up. Funny they don’t mention this when you… more

“Over priced”

We checked out this hotel before booking and it seemed ok but very pricy for 3 nights but we saw reviews and booked . We checked out this hotel before booking and it seemed ok but very pricy for 3 nights but we saw reviews and booked . To be honest very basic not particularly clean in parts and breakfast £18 per person … ridiculous, ten minute walk or Wetherspoons breakfast £4 per person. Room not particularly clean and very basic dirty carpet with tea stains and mould in the bathroom. Cleaner came in this morning left clean towels and that’s it no cleaning… you can hear other guests through the walls if they are loud, suggest bringing ear plugs. I think it’s over rated for how much you pay .. stayed in far nicer for less. Parking is extra £18 per day …. I looked at other reviews and quite honestly I don’t agree … overpriced and over sold . But it’s your typical big city hotel so you get what you pay for .
