“Modern hotel in a good location”

Stayed here, as I had an appointment down Oxford Road. Location was great for there-close to the train station, and easy to walk there, and in fact, a good location generally. Friendly & helpful staff

Second time staying at The Alan, both experiences have been fantastic. We booked a two night stay this time and weren’t disappointed. It’s right in the city centre so all the city centre things are just a walk away. Perfect for getting to the restaurants and bars. Right opposite the Manchester Art Gallery too Not sure about some of the reviews from the negative nellies on here; it’s a great hotel, the rooms are massive (we got the room upgrade due to being members and had literally the biggest bed, a lovely designer chair, comy sofa, table and desk etc and still enough room to swing a cat!). The design of the rooms are minimal and modern, the bathrooms - well shower rooms - are again tastefully appointed and modern. It has a great “hip” modern vibe, boutique and bespoke fixtures and fittings let you know you’re somewhere a cut above the standard chain hotels. You can order room service, all the staff we encountered were incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful. We had breakfast included one morning, and it was lovely. It’s a sit down and order from the menu so again a real cut about the standard buffet type breakfast at the chain hotels. The full english (ordered extra hash browns as they are perfect) was tasty and more than enough to set us up for the day. For complete parity here are the bad bits. The chairs at the bar are too deep! You can’t really get comfy in them unless you scooch right back, but then you’re forever leaning forward to reach your drink. The staff at the bar, and this is being picky, didn’t really know what they were doing as they weren’t the full time bar staff but waiters filling in; we ordered a Cabernet Sauvignon and the poor guy picked up a bottle of something distinctly white and seemingly didn’t realise a quick scan of the label would have helped infinitely, criminal I know. There isn’t a raised lip on the shower tray so any excess water does spill onto the floor. The room is a tad loud with outside noise with the window open, but it’s a city centre for goodness sake what does one really expect! Now the good bits. We booked the first night with secret escapes and had a bottle of Prosecco free and a room upgrade. Also, become a member. Just do it. We got a free drink voucher and 12% off other drink orders, and they kept us in the upgraded room for the second night. Like I said, staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Forget what anyone else says about parking as well, using the Q park they mention on the hotel site is the best option. Underground, perfectly secure and a one minute walk to the hotel. Cost us less than £50 from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. Easy to find as well. Overall, I think it’s fair to say the stay was worth the cost of the room. Superb location, fashionable rooms, big comfy bed, great service and free drinks, what more could you ask for.

The location is within easy reach of the necessities etc and the most important is the night life just on the doorstep However, the check in can be improved upon as staff seemed to be playful whilst guests awaiting to get checked in.
