When we first arrived I felt like we were in a time warp. The location is absolutely stunning!! We made our way up the creaky stairs to our room. Upon first glance it looked as though you are back in another time long ago with everything looking a bit tired. Drawers stuck, the ironing board left a mark on my top from the lack of padding, the wardrobe creaked. I was at first quite upset as it was a special treat for my husbands 50th. After we got showered and ready we went for dinner. The room only has a few tables in and we sat on one of the window tables. This is where the experience unfolds!!! Attentive staff who cannot do enough for you. Food of the likes I’ve not experienced before with special plates made for me due to my fussy vegetarianism. After a magnificent meal we visited the quaint bar area and discussed the whiskey choices. As it was June the Sun never really went down. The view was amazing and the we left the window and curtains open to admire the peace and tranquility. Sleep was amazing!! THE most comfortable bed. The second day was even more tranquil with a great hike to the bomber in the hills. Another magnificent meal. A game of pool on the Snooker Table 😁 and another great whiskey choice. I would recommend this little piece of heaven to anyone that wants tranquility with great service amazing food and the most beautiful surroundings in this quirky hotel 😍

“Fantastic stay and meals!”

We thought our three night stay here was absolutely perfect! We had a beautiful view of the loch, very comfortable room, the dinners were incredible. We thought our three night stay here was absolutely perfect! We had a beautiful view of the loch, very comfortable room, the dinners were incredible. David wore many hats as host, bartender, waiter and was a joy. The house and grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed meeting and talking with other guests in the evening in the variety of sitting room options - lounge, study, bar, billiard room… We enjoyed the falconry experience so much, we did it twice. Overall, just a delightful experience.

Shieldaig lodge is a lovely building in a beautiful location with terrific views over the loch. The loch view rooms have a great aspect. There’s been investment in the public areas with the whisky bar and lounges furnished to a high standard. The staff were great, very friendly and welcoming, particularly Portia who was very helpful. Unfortunately the bedrooms haven’t seen the same investment. Our room was tired and shabby with mismatched dated furniture. The windows in the bedroom and sealant in the en suite both showed sign of mould. The walls between the rooms are quite thin so you can hear conversations from nearby rooms. It’s a dog friendly hotel. We were woken each morning by dogs barking next to us. Breakfast was fine if you want a full Scottish but other options were limited. No fresh fruit salad, but tinned fruit was available. The hotel has an overpriced restaurant on site which I’ve reviewed separately. Overall we felt let down by the room quality. We expected better at this price point.
