We stayed here last week as part of a Shearings coach tour. We were very happy with the hotel and I used the swimming pool of the spa which was great although let down by silly little matters. The hotel is located in a very isolated position although there are nice walks along the canal. Although near Oswestry it is very difficult to get there without a car. In terms of the hotel we found all staff very helpful and friendly. Our room (222) was very nice and spacious although the bathroom was small and a little too cramped. We had a walk in shower which had two showers, an overhead and a handheld however we could not get the handheld to work, we similarly could not change the temperature on the ac system. We had comfy beds and well appointed room, overall we were very happy with it. Food was very good. We had a limited three way choice of food being part of the tour group, however the choices given were ok for everybody and the quality of the food was very good. We found the restaurant service rather slow, this seemed dur to staff waiting for everyone on all the tour tables to be finished with a course before clearing away and providing the next, meals therefor took some 2 to 2.5 hours each time. The spa pool is great, stated to be 25 metres but it seemed longer, it it 1.5 metres deep throughout. Very nice changing rooms, good temperature, very clean. It has "subdued" lighting which is not ideal but you do get accustomed to it after a while. Staff on reception there are very friendly and helpful. Silly things that let the spa down include, inadequate lighting even at emergency exits, no pool lifeguard, no security at all (one day a man from the street wandered in through the staff entrance, stared for a few minutes then wandered around and took photo's) he was never challenged so there cannot be cameras and after several minutes he left via another staff entrance., no working clock so you never know what the time is. One day a member of staff came and stuck a piece of paper on changing room doors, this paper said the water would be turned off (approx 45 mins after the sign was posted) there was nothing said and no tannoy etc therefore with no clock we had no idea how long we had to avoid this. Despite the down points mentioned, I recommend the hotel and spa as we had a good experience overall.

“Staff brilliant. Placevin need of a refurb”

The staff were brilliant. I had a facial it was great. Tapas was ok. That was the good stuff. The place looks like its being left to deteriorate. It's a shame as it was a stunning place. It's run down. I appreciate they have had a big Roof leak. However, the spa itself was really shoddy,tile… more

It's run down. I appreciate they have had a big Roof leak. However, the spa itself was really shoddy,tiles missing. Mould in places. Furniture in places tired looking as was the decor. Outside on patio, weeds everywhere. Broken tiles. Looked very tired and uncared for. I really hope management will spend on a much needed refurb. It's a good place and busy.
