“brillant hotel and staff”

FAULTLESS , I stayed here for 4 nights early February and i found the place fantastic, the food was brilliant , the staff very friendly ,the rooms were lovely, great breakfast . The best placed i have ever stayed in while working away from home, hopefully return 1 day with my wife.

We arrived to a warm welcome it was a cold and blustery day and a nice fire in the hearth would of been wonderful but both were cold. Our rooms were warm, and very comfortable and we were very impressed. The added touches of biscuits were a nice bonus along with an iron and a hairdryer, very much needed. We sat down to enjoy a hearty roast dinner, as soon as we had ordered a dinner appeared. The rest of our party waited 20 minutes for there's to come by this point the person who had there's had eaten it so a dinner that we couldn't eat together. One of us asked why this was the case and the staff just apologised. When the other friends got their meal the one who had already eaten hers realised that she didn't get any roast potatoes. It did spoil our meal. One of our friends spoke to the manager and told her that the situation was poor. The manager got a bit defensive. It was only until one of us went to the bar and told the lady behind the bar that we were not happy with the service, lack of potatoes and the fact we didn't get our meals at the same time even though we had ordered at the same time. This lady said as compensation we could have either a complimentary pudding or a drink. Great thank you but at no point did anyone approach our table to explain or apologise. We were only offered the pudding or drink because we had approached them. On a good note we slept well and then had a luke warm breakfast in the morning. Service again was poor no one around to clear our plates so we had to clear them to another table. Such a shame it felt like they just didn't care. You could also tell there was animosity between the staff. A disappointing visit !

“Pleasant room, disappointing food.”

Stayed at the Village Inn for 2 nights arriving on the 28th Dec. Room was compact but comfortable and had the added bonus of a bath. The bathroom would be my only criticism regarding the room as there is nowhere to pop your toothbrush or any toiletries and I loathe leaving them lying on the sink. A… more

Stayed at the Village Inn for 2 nights arriving on the 28th Dec. Room was compact but comfortable and had the added bonus of a bath. The bathroom would be my only criticism regarding the room as there is nowhere to pop your toothbrush or any toiletries and I loathe leaving them lying on the sink. A wee shelf would have been ideal. We ate here the first night and sadly the food wasn’t great. Fish and chips on the menu turned out to be fish and fries, with the fish being the thinnest we have seen and although battered looked microwaved it was also incredibly greasy. I had the Caesar salad which was equally exciting, for the price we expected more on the quality and preparation to be honest. Breakfast was better although my poached eggs couldn’t have been more over cooked. We walked along the shore road and found a great wee place and had tea there the second night which we really enjoyed. One thing we found puzzling is why the Christmas tree is placed right in the middle of the dining room - we had to negotiate this every time we had to leave or return to our room. Staff were pleasant.
