We loved visiting the enchanting Inverlochy Castle Hotel, Scotland on 19.06.26 😊❤️ Scottish hospitality at its finest in a real life fairy tale castle with some of the most magical views we have ever seen ! The Ladies welcoming the guests were absolutely delightful and the service gracious with a smile at all times. We loved the elegant drawing room and enjoying our morning tea on the beautiful terrace. Thank you so much for your excellent recommendation of the idyllic Hollytree Restaurant with breathtaking views of Loch Linnhe that we visited on our way to Oban on a private tour organised through the excellent and knowledgeable Craig McCormick from Egor's Taxi & Tours based in Fort William. Inverlochy Castle Hotel is a luxury 5-star hotel located in Torlundy, near Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. Dating back to 1863, this historic stone country house offers an upscale, romantic atmosphere surrounded by landscaped gardens and dramatic mountain views. Queen Victoria famously visited in 1873, writing that she "never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot." Inverlochy Castle Hotel is a 19th-century Scots Baronial-style mansion located near Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. It was built as a private residence in 1863 by William Frederick Scarlett, the 3rd Baron Abinger. The hotel sits two miles away from the original 13th-century Old Inverlochy Castle, a medieval stronghold built by the "Red" Comyns from which the mansion took its name. 1863: Construction began when William Scarlett commissioned London architect George Hesketh to build the grand mansion on the 42,000-acre estate. The structure served as a private family home. 1873: The Royal Visit during a trip to Balmoral, Queen Victoria spent a week at Inverlochy sketching and painting. 1889: Stately Expansion Edinburgh architect MacVicar Anderson extended the building. He added a striking four-storey tower, a turret, and cutting-edge amenities like electric lights and a hot water system. This period also introduced the Great Hall's spectacular ceiling frescoes. 1969: Grete Hobbs converted the historic mansion into one of the United Kingdom's earliest luxury country house hotels. It has a long history of welcoming distinguished figures. Famous guests of the estate include: Royalty & Heads of State: Queen Victoria (who stayed for a week in 1873 and wrote that she "never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot"), HM Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and Confederate States President Jefferson Davis. Inverlochy castle hotels stunning: amazing food, physically glorious. But outstanding service became extraordinary the evening I was walking to my room and began to feel unwell. Paula, a member of staff, was carrying out turndown service in my room as I began to collapse before reaching the bed. She caught me before I fell, eased me safely to the floor. I was briefly in a faint but she woke me as is medically best practice; kept talking to me, held my head expertly, put me in recovery position, got a coworker to call for medical advice, all the time kind and competent. I was incredibly lucky. If I had not been helped to the ground by Paula I could have broken something; her calm, caring competence saved me from panic. And the immediacy of help meant no damage was done I spent a few days in bed in the hotel ( I refused an ambulance) and all the staff were kind, wanting to help and went above and beyond. Paula in particular. It was like Mary Poppins appearing just when you need heri heard later she has had some experience working as a carer and hence knew what to do. And that level of care in addition to an amazing room: it is spacious , comfortable, beautifully appointed with a lovely view. The common lounges are breathtaking. Lushly appointed, wuiet, with green expanse, views for ever. Afternoon tea gazing at the view was sensational. With catering for my various food allergies. The degustation dinner, particularly the prequel of chandelier lit canapés and champagne with masterful grand piano player perfectly pitched to the setting. This place is an absolute gem. And Paula is a total credit to her employer. A hidden gem.
