Just back from a relaxing two night break b/b and dinner first night and b/b second night with my wife at the Fernhill Hotel in Portpatrick with a Woucher deal. First, the website was excellent. I bought the voucher and it gave me a link to book the date. Very straightforward I thought. Parking is free and plenty of spaces available. Checking in was no problem. We got upgraded to a sea view room free of charge, probably because the hotel was quiet. Anyway, we thought it was a nice touch. The room was clean and ready. The room was a double with two singles pushed together to make a large double bed with two chairs at a small table, ideal to sit and look out at the view. The view was fantastic looking over the bay. ( see photos from the room) No need to book breakfast time as there is plenty of space. Breakfast was the usual fare available – cereals, fruit, (cooked breakfast and toast all ordered off a menu), juices etc Tip - Vegetarian breakfast available. We went to the restaurant for Dinner on one night. We booked a time for dinner when checking in. £20 per person credit in the deal. Reasonable selection with vegetarian options. Served at a good pace not rushed or too long. We went to the bar after and it was very quiet which in our experience was usual for a hotel bar. Prices usual hotel rates (£6 for a pint though!). The second night we had dinner at The Galloway Bar and Restaurant, beside the caravan site on the hill. Before 6pm early bird two courses £19.95 which was excellent. We had a walk round Portpatrick itself before dinner and it was very small and quiet with one shop, one pub, a few hotels and a harbour area. Probably busy in the summer with day trips. We decided to go out and about on the second day in between showers to Wigtown (very quiet with lots of book shops, free parking on the street, had tea in Books and Bakes shop), Newtown Stewart (bit busier than Wigtown but not huge, free parking in the Riverside car park with toilets, walked along main street and left), and Stranraer (busiest of the three with more shops, Tesco and people, free parking at the harbour, we had tea and cake in the Fig and Olive cafe) Overall an excellent relaxing two day break and would recommend it.

Our first time in Portpatrick and the Fernhill hotel, we booked a deal through itison. Hotel is very nice, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, we were also given a free upgrade, we had a room with amazing sea views and a balcony, 2 big comfy leather chairs and a queen size bed which was really comfortable. We ate in the restaurant which also boasts amazing views, food was excellent and service also. I definitely recommend this hotel, we can't wait to go back again.

This was the last stop on our 7 week trip around Scotland and England. We had a wonderful one night stay here and we were so happy we stayed. The room we got was amazing with a stunning view of the town and the sea. It was lovely to see the sun setting and the town below lighting up. The room was quiet, which we loved, and had everything you could need for a lovely stay. We enjoyed the beautiful and vast bathroom which was like something out of a 5 star suite. The breakfast ext morning was lovely and again you had a view of the sea to enjoy while enjoying breakfast. Overall a lovely stay and we would stay again for sure.

The location of this hotel was excellent. It looked down over the bay and harbour area was easy to access from the village. Electric charge points a bonus, for anyone with an EV. These didnt pop up on Zap Map or the Charge Scotland app. They were capable of charging 22kw, unless there was something else plugged in, in which it would drop to 11kw. Charging was relatively cheap too but you need your own cable. Atmosphere wise. We felt really young in the hotel and didnt feel like there was much of an atmosphere in the 'cocktail bar'/ 'restaurant'. We had an evening meal at the hotel, which was okay. We ate there because of Storm Dave and didnt want to drive back down into the harbour area. Nothing seemed homemade, chips were chunky and mass produced and fish was not fresh. Venison burger was tasteless and dry. But we ate it and didnt complain. Service was brilliant. Both members of staff attentive. Our room was huge, with a separate bathroom and bedroom. Dated but spacious. The window latch did not close, which meant the window didnt seel properly! Storm Dave was howling through the window from about 4pm until we left at 10am the following day. This has been mentioned previously in reviews, so the hotel are clearly aware. We went back to reception to ask for a different room, but the only room they could give us wasnt the same as we'd booked, a lot smaller and the window didnt seel in that one particularly well, either. The room we were offered smelt like dog, im not a dog owner, so dont expect a hotel room to smell of dogs. I asked for some spare towels so that we could put them round the windowsills. But they were blown off the sill and onto the floor because of the storm. Thankfully, there was an electric fan heater because we had that on most the night. The cold tap didnt work in the bath. So, we ran a bath and had to wait over an hour for it to cool down. That said, the water pressure was awesome and hot water was abundant. Breakfast was okay, nothing fancy. A choice of continental and cooked. Plenty of toast on request. Coffee machine on the bar. Good coffee. Against, staff attentive and helpful. Over all we had a nice evening away from home. The window put a huge dampener on it for me. Carry out routine maintenance and listen to your customers. Probably wouldn't return to this particular hotel in Port Patrick. But will be back to the area in the near future.
