Exactly what you would expect from a quintessential country inn - warm, welcoming and great food. We stayed for 2 nights and found our room to be clean, spacious and with a large comfy bed. The owner popped in both evenings and was very chatty and offered suggestions for local walks and attractions. Indeed, all staff were very friendly and I must give a special mention to Matt who personally looked after us from booking stage through to checkout. Overall a fabulous weekend break that I would highly recommend.

Booked as we spent the day in Barry Island meeting family then moving on to another part of Wales the follow day - looked lovely and just what we needed so booked, then read the reviews (big mistake) was so nervous about turning up as the recent reviews were less that good. When we arrive it was starting to get busy (Saturday afternoon) there was a large party of people there as well, we were seen to straight away the staff were great and we chatted as we were shown to our room, well we were so impressed, beautiful room, clean and spacious, bathroom was lovely with everything you needed, lovely view of the horses from the bedroom window. If i was going to nit pick there was a small stain on one of the pillow cases (just used the other pillow and flipped the other over) and one spoon was a bit dirty in the room (we just used the other spoon) hardly worth complaining about and didnt spoil our stay. We then went down to the bar and ordered drinks, hardly any wait and reasonable prices, we sat outside in the garden which was lovely (apart from the flying ants - not much the staff could do about that though ;0) ) we then went up to our room and had a very peaceful and relaxing evening/night sleep, very comfy bed and the fan worked wonders as it was quite a hot night. After reading reviews that the food wasnt great we were a bit apprehensive about going down to Breakfast but we couldnt be more wrong, one staff member taking orders and two in the kitchen - we didnt have to wait too long to be served, we both ordered the Welsh Breakfast it was absolutely amazing, very well presented and tasted amazing, couldnt fault anything. We then packed up and checked out - The staff were great they asked if everything was ok and whether we had a good stay and what our plans were for the day. We would definitely stay there again. We stayed as a 1 nighter and arrived early evening and were met by a lovely gentleman called Matt who swiftly saw us to our room. Our double room was well furnished, clean and spacious with a large bed with crisp white linen, small futon style settee, dressing table, proper hairdryer and plenty of tea, coffee, sugar and milk. The large bathroom had a shower over the bath which was both hot and powerful. We ate in the restaurant which had a lovely ambience and staff. We had already been reserved a table by Matt and were told it was there when we wanted it. We both chosethe the 8oz steak which was cooked to perfection and was the nicest we've had out for a while. The accompanying chips, mushroom, vine tomatoes and homemade onion rings were equally delicious. We shared the biscoff cheesecake desert which was again delicious. There was a good selection of beers, cider and Guinness on tap. Matt was very friendly and we chatted whilst he worked and gained some insight about the local areas. We retired to a comfortable nights sleep and the room was in a quiet area, which if it hadn't been for the German family who were in 2 adjoining rooms with 5 children who were insistent on going in and out of their bedroom doors which faced ours, would have been perfect. They were again our early morning wake up call! This however is no reflection on the accommodation but perhaps given the closeness if doors in the corridor a sign could be put on them of some sort re quiet and respecting other occupants. Breakfast was a full Welsh which was again cooked to perfection with toast and kept us going all day. There were also cereals, yoghurts and apples and oranges if you wanted them with orange juice, fresh water and another juice available. Plenty of tea and coffee too. The place is situated on a quiet country lane and there is plenty of parking both out the front and rear of the building, the rear having a gate which is locked at 11.pm. Would we stay again, yes, but would hope our neighbours next time are more considerate.

“Great potential, good but not excellent”

Very hospitable host and all staff friendly. We had a good welcome. We wondered if this venue had been recently taken over by new owners/management. Adverts in reception for staff required. Very hospitable host and all staff friendly. We had a good welcome. We wondered if this venue had been recently taken over by new owners/management. Adverts in reception for staff required. Restaurant. Good choice of food, well cooked and pleasantly served. Bar. Good stock of beers and wines. However I asked for a cocktail from the menu and it was not possible as there was nobody available who knew how to make any of the cocktails on the menu. Rooms (we were 2 couples). Both rooms were basically clean, especially the bathrooms. However, bedrooms were dusty on the window cills, wall panels and pictures on the walls. Towels frayed and only 1 hand towel per room (2 Bath towels). Clean fresh bedding, comfy large beds. Rooms not serviced the next morning (we were there 2 nights) Breakfast. Great food and service. Tables not clean (crumbs) and banquette seating at both areas we sat needed a hoover/brush off. Obviously not “refreshed” between guests. Overall we enjoyed our stay but there is a lack of attention to detail regarding cleanliness in general and servicing the rooms. The management team are perhaps not all pulling together in a cohesive fashion to provide the best service for guests. The venue and its situation has everything going for it and could be wonderful with a bit more efficiency in the running of the place.
