Great location next to York Station, lovely Victorian building thats been beautifully refurbished and lovingly maintained. Extremely comfortable and all the staff very polite, friendly, really helpful and very professional. A thoroughly pleasant stay and looking forward to returning

Big room. A little shabby but good facilities. The steak in the restaurant was excellent, although the breakfast was only mediocre. The car parking is a bonus as most hotels in York don’t have one but it is expensive. I would recommend this hotel for arriving by train as it is right next door. Members of staff are really pleasant and helpful both at reception and in the restaurant.

“Nice spot!”

Beautiful building. Really, really good locality. Next to the train station and a 10 minute walk into town. Very helpful for us as I’m due to have a baby next month. Beautiful building. Really, really good locality. Next to the train station and a 10 minute walk into town. Very helpful for us as I’m due to have a baby next month. The place is very, very clean (which we appreciated)! We saw a receptionist polishing the lift this morning and the domestic & reception team are very polite and considerate. The bedrooms are nice, the bathroom & shower were a highlight, plus the complimentary ‘Rituals’ toiletries! We didn’t bring our dog but we loved that it was dog friendly. I didn’t see any dog-mess bins outside which may be something to consider. Our only criticisms were that some of the young staff can be unprofessional or thoughtless. The Garden Room, we overheard the girls speaking about their night out that evening, what they were going to wear, one swore in frustration about something quite loudly. I made a point of acknowledging this as there were very small children within hearing distance of this and I thought it was very unprofessional. She then took her colleague in the back. The bar was unattended quite a few times over the couple days we stayed and we saw people come for a drink but go again after no service staff were around. This same girls earlier colleagues came in in the evening for a drink on the Friday, not a problem, but I’d rather they not speak across the room to one another when we’re trying to switch off. On Saturday 01/08 morning, the young girl greeting us for breakfast was very polite and warm. The younger waiters staff were not so. One young lad we actively watched going back and forth, gossiping with colleagues feverishly repeatedly or appeared to aimlessly pace. When we asked where something was, he didn’t move from his chatting-spot with a colleague and instead pointed across the room to direct us to said item. We had to ask for him to clear our table as he had walked past. One girl rolled her eyes to her colleague across the room and another was overheard speaking abruptly and quite rudely to a customer who had asked about having a cappuccino. I’m quite glad it was not me who was on the receiving end of this as I would not have had such a tame reaction to such rudeness from a young team member. After all this, we watched some of the young team members take food from the buffet amongst guests and take it to the back (room service for guests or perhaps their own breakfast?). If it’s the latter, it would be more appropriate to do this once the service has been completed and not whilst guest are trying to get to their food. The young waiting staff on the morning looked miserable simply put. The more mature waiter was very on-it, attentive, polite and appeared to try and steer the younger ones away from the constant gossiping, chatting and disappearing with one another that we witnessed. We did feel for him and his efforts. Breakfast was a buffet, good array of items but I do feel this is overpriced for what it is (£18pp) and not especially hot. We will come back but I really hope some of the younger waiting staff develop greater self awareness and become more conscious of who may be around annd observing their professionalism.
