Very good hotel with plenty to do. Rooms are quite big with Asian decoration, Although they may have some greater detail distinction. The facilities are very spacious, has a large pool in which multiple activities are performed and other heated in-door pool. To highlight the spa is amazing with two minimalistic yacuzzys where you can perform many activities. The breakfast buffet is complete and very well served. On the second floor has the reading room with a big piano and where guests usually gather to watch the sunset over the river. The staff is super friendly and kind. IIt has many more sectors where you can read or listen to music. Great hotel with good price-quality relationship to enjoy the shore of Rio de la Plata.

What do I mean.!! Colonia has one of the best sunsets in the world, so depending how long you stay you must find a great spot to clap the sunset... At the Colony they have a viewing balcony just for this purpose..so enjoy it.. Now the hotel says 5 star but it is not. The rooms are ok but walls are thin...the service way below par.. The outside pool is small compare to others.. The Spa and indoor pool is the best bet..BUT to get to it you must go thru a tunnel under the road!! Food is good.. In high season they have many activities for kids and kids club... also in peak season they provide 1/2 pension food meaning you must have it!! Over all this could be a great hotel, if only the owners believe so and did something about it... Summary stay for the Spa and View the rest you can do better elsewhere.

It´s a real shame this former Kempinsky hotel hasn´t been well maintained to its previous standard. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable but the paper thin walls may disrupt your rest by your next door neighbour´s conversations, telephone rings etc. According to the Receptionist all rooms have that defect and those on the top floors complain about hearing the restless pigeons on the roof. The Hotel as such is huge and attractive, in parts very sunny, but the main problem is that it is DIRTY. Plain dirty. We spent 5 nights over the New Year and could see over and over again the same areas had not been dusted or swept, or if they had the gathered leaves remained piled up untouched throughout our stay, wiaiting for someone to pick them up. During our 6 days there we used the pool but had to complain to the lady outside the Spa area because the pool was covered by small black insects(like small flies) so you couldn´t swim without being covered in them, We really made use of the showers to wash out after coming out of the pool. The day we arrived there were about 12 kids playing in the pool with rubber balloons filled with water, very popular in South America during Carnival. The remnants of those remained floating in the pool till we left. The bottom of the pool floor was never swept and cigarette buds could be seen, The wooden deck surrounding a side of the pool was broken in parts and some planks out of place: an accident waiting to happen! Even the pool area opened at 8.30am staff never came to clean, re arrange the chairs/tables or pick up the previous day´s bottles and glasses till about 11.00am. The chaise were dirty and sticky so we had to cover them with complimentary towels provided by the hotel. The New Year´s Eve Dinner was nicely prepared and a delightful singer entertained us with internationally reknowned songs which everyone could follow. Even though we didn´t go to watch, on our first 2 nights 2 international films were shown in the hotel´s cinema close to the restaurant. I agree with some of the comments provided by other contributors regarding the restaurant and housekeeping staff: Some were lively, enthusiastic and eager to help while others just didn´t seem to care. But we obtained very good service after we tipped the staff after requesting a change of pillows and more clothes hangers (our double room only had 3!) My suggestion to the hotel would be to hire more cleaning/,maintenance staff, especially someone with a strong attention to detail to improve the general well-being of the guests. This is the first time I ever complain about a hotel´s cleanliness.
