From the moment you drive up the scenic access road to the grand entrance of this resort, expect to leave your stress and every- day bustle behind. I can't say enough about the amount of professionalism, attention to detail and hospitality that you will receive during your stay. The grounds, facilities, Food & Beverage outlets and rooms/suites are immaculately clean and fresh. Staff constantly greeted us with a smile and a 'good morning/evening'. whether it was walking down a guest room corridor, taking a seat at the bar, receiving towels at the pool (I highly recommend indulging in one of the luxurious pool cabanas) or just randomly passing a staff member in the lobby or other public space. The restaurants/bars are lively and friendly and of the highest quality. The nightly Tequila Toast on the veranda - cannot be missed. It really is a special tradition. We spent a half day at the spa being pampered and the only part of our entire 3 -night stay that wasn't pleasant- was LEAVING! We really wish we could have stayed longer- and will hope to on our next visit. Being in the hospitality industry for over 40+ years and traveling the world extensively- I have found few properties of this caliber. This is a testament to the staff and the leaders who guide them.

“We feel in love with this hotel”

This was our first visit to this hotel and we fell in love with it. It is being remodeled and although we were not in a new room, we did get upgraded to a pool facing room with a balcony. The beds and pillows were comfortable, we loved the smell of the bathroom products, and appreciated the fridge for waters. We liked the free washers and dryers on the 4th floor, the ice and water dispensers by the elevators, flavored waters by the check-in desk, and lots of recycling containers around the resort. We did the morning guided hike two mornings and both guides gave us plenty of tips on other hiking trails so two mornings we hiked the Richard Genser trailhead which is a 5-minute drive from hotel and much less crowded with hotel guests. We also took Steve’s suggestion to drive up to Mt. Lemmon which was cool to go from cacti to snow in one day – it was 8300’ elevation at the ski lodge and 50 degrees and 81 degrees when we got back to Tucson. We ate most of our meals on the Salud terrace by a firepit or a patio heater. Don’t miss the nightly tequila toast. We also ate one meal at the Signature Grill on the patio and it was really good. We were less impressed with Passaggio and would probably skip that next time. The Salud terrace was closed one evening for a company event and one night the gemologist group meet on the terrace so get there early and plan accordingly if you plan to do the tequila toast or eat there. They did offer blankets if it was chilly out and we appreciated the Marriott staff directed smokers and vapers off the terrace. We liked the pool and had no problems getting chairs – they did offer drink and food service poolside until 3 p.m. each day. We walked the property several times a day down to the delivery entrance and back around the back of the hotel – 25 minute stroll on a large sidewalk. Great view of Tucson and very dark at night to enjoy the planets and stars. We will stay again on our next trip to Tucson.

“Stay here, but eat elsewhere!”

Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful JW’s we’ve stayed at. The views & vistas were nothing short of spectacular. Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful JW’s we’ve stayed at. The views & vistas were nothing short of spectacular. The pools & lazy river were sparkling & clean with plenty of shaded areas for seating & the cold drinks, although ridiculously overpriced, kept coming. The staff were gracious & accommodating & the beds were comfy & the rooms super quiet & tranquil. We were made aware of the fact that renovations were taking place during our stay ( great, as the property is beginning to show its age), but we were never once disturbed by any construction noise at all. Basically, this is a property we would love to come back to again & again on our frequent travels were it not for the service levels at all of the restaurants on property. It was just non-existent! We ate multiple meals at all of the restaurants during our 6 day stay & without fail, after being seated, we waited and waited and waited….. for our server to finally show up, for water, to place our order, to finally receive our food, for drink refills, for our check, & the list goes on. All kinds of reasons for these multiple service failures could exist, but at the end of the day, this is a leadership issue which the Food & Beverage leader should be addressing head-on. Throughout our stay in our conversations with other guests poolside or in the restaurants, the joke was about the lack of service in the restaurants & how long it took to even get a drink of water. We will not be returning to this property until online reviews reflect a positive change in the service levels & true leadership is evident in how the restaurants are staffed & managed.
