We were so lucky to be able to eat here. We were staying a few mins away at a rental house and for a brief window, dining reservations were allowed for non guests and non club members. We all agreed that this was the best restaurant food and experience we've ever had. I was looking for a spot close to our rental and imagined the food would be typical of hotel or wedding banquet venues- OK but not the best. How wrong I was! Every dish, every appetizer, dessert, drinks and wine were sublime. The setting is also absolutely magical. We got lost initially on the property trying to find the dining venue but wandering around at night with all the holiday lights and decorations only added to the ambiance and our pleasure. Stunning property. Will try to return as a lodging guest in the future. Our waiter was also outstanding.

My visit to the Calamigos Guest Resort in Malibu was special. My stay began with walking the grounds that sit below the Santa Monica Mountains. Everyone thinks of Malibu as a beach setting, but Calamigos is a tranquil getaway in the Malibu Hills. Indeed. The resort has a beach club down Pacific Coast Highway. Memories of “Gidget” pass through my mind. History matters. In 1937, the patriarch, Grant Gerson started Calamigos as a family retreat to be closer to nature - and opened it to day camps and thousands of LA children. The Gerson family reimagined their old West camping on their 300 acre property and designed a resort - far and away - maybe the best getaway in the United States. Grant’s son and grandson run Calamigos today and live nearby. The property has quaint cottages, suites, and private homes. You add cow barns, stables, vineyards (the Gersons’ make their own Calamigos wine) - and the most impressive vison - a ferris wheel and carousel. Glen Gerson was instantly famous in the 1960s when he staged a rock concert and thousands flocked to Calamigos, reminiscent of a smaller Woodstock. On the particular weekend that I was at Calamigos, I walked into a wedding reception, watched children giggling on the carousel, had lunch in the eco friendly cafe, (with dozens of bikers), swam in the pool, jumped in the ice plunge, finished in the sauna, and ate in Chef Jon’s delicious main restaurant. My exuberance on Calamigos is because this place is seriously iconic, beautiful, peaceful, and happy.

We stayed at Calamigos in spring of 2024 and had the most incredible experience. We came back in fall 2025 for a relaxing getaway; it ended up being the perfect place for one of the most important moments of our lives: our engagement. Calamigos feels like stepping into a serene, private world tucked away in the Malibu hills. The grounds are gorgeous—towering oaks, twinkling lights at night, peaceful ponds, and beautiful paths. It’s quiet, romantic, and perfectly maintained. We stayed in one of the bungalows, which was spacious, meticulously clean and very private. The fireplace, the outdoor seating area and outdoor soaking tubs surrounding by high walls/hedges made it feel like our own little hideaway. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our stay special. We especially want to highlight the concierge, Kurt, who was involved with the planning process for weeks. He made himself available daily to ensure that the vision of the proposal became reality. The rest of the staff helped make the engagement go perfectly—accommodating our requests and making us feel celebrated the entire time. Calamigos Ranch provided the most breathtaking backdrop for the proposal. We were able to reserve the Barn venue which provided an intimate setting detailed with chandeliers in the trees and a waterfall. We will forever be grateful that we chose this place to begin the next chapter of our lives. We capped off the engagement evening with a private dinner at The Ranch Restaurant located on the property. The food was amazing and the servers were very attentive. 5/5 — Absolutely unforgettable
