This is a pretty interesting hotel. It seems it is built with the Chinese tour groups in mind - it has a huge lobby to accommodate them and many of the signs are in both English and Simplified Chinese. I didn't see any tour buses pulling up during my stay. The area is a little sparse. There is a McDonald's across the parking lot. A 7-Eleven on the next block. A Mexican restaurant cross the street. There is actually a bus right outside the hotel that can take you to Downtown LA for US$1.75 each way. The hotel has an on-site Chinese restaurant. I got one of the bigger rooms - has a little refrigerator and microwave + a sofa bed. It is pretty big. Lots of furniture and storage space but I think this adds to the cost of cleaning and maintenance. The hardware is not "fashionable" - older style - but totally usable and very functional. Construction seems to be not great - I could hear my neighbor pretty well. There are also some strange stuff - like a power outlet that is not leveled, some kind of wire sticking out of the wall, the strange bracket of the shower partition, etc. The safety deposit box is also very different from those used at other hotels, strangely positioned in the closet and is not that big. The staff was nice and friendly. Very cheap facial tissue at the bathroom - the kind that falls apart easily.

I gave this hotel 5 stars in my review a few years back. Have stayed a few times again since then with positive experience. But I have a different opinion this time. The room itself is clean and good as expected. However, when I arrived around 7 pm, there was only 1 guy working, so the check in process took a while with a few people in front of me. Maybe they do this as a cost cutting measure, but for a hotel this big, it inflicts unnecessary unpleasant check in experience to the hotel customers.

“Newer Holiday Inn with a few bumps all around”

Stayed here for a few nights and it was a decent experience. Holiday Inn is located in El Monte. The property reminds me of China and features a gated parking in the rear with a non-functioning gate. There is a uniformed security guard in front of the East LA hotel. Check-in took a bit while we waited for the front desk agent to come back from their break. The lobby was gigantic, with plenty of luggage carts, mini TV sections, and random sofas. There is a Chinese restaurant on the lobby level too. On the street level, there is a ballroom, outdoor pool, fitness centre, guest laundry, along with a few rooms. Upper levels are accessible by elevator. The hallways doesn't seem to be air conditioned. There are windows in the hallways by the lifts along with random sofas placed in front of the elevator banks. The elevator also featured strange sounds upon arrival to the desired floor. The King sized room was spacious, featuring a fire-proof doors for both the entrance along witht the bathroom door. Water pressure in the bathroom was weak and tended to drip all night. Bathroom consisted of Dove branded body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and hand lotion. Towels included body, hand, face, along with a towel in front of the shower. The closet included a digital safe that was locked upon arrival... There was a luggage rack too. There was a mini fridge, coffee making equipment, along with a mini microwave inside the room. There were a couple coffee cups along with a couple water cups that were in plastic but opened on both ends?!? The TV featured premium business channels although the TV screen was distorted...there was no way to adjust the image for the TV... The HVAC in the room worked well and was quiet. The bed in the room was a comfortable pillowtop mattress although there were slight body imprints on each side of the mattress. Lighting in the room was a touch dim, especially for reading at night. Parking was complimentary and included EV chargers. Wifi was also complimentary and worked well. Housekeeping is by request only and is only available every 4 nights.

“Weird one night stay”

Stayed here for one night so we didn’t spend a great amount of time here. Our feeling was the hotel had a “weird” vibe. I’m not sure what the building was used for prior to becoming a Holiday Inn but maybe apartments of some sort? Not sure. Check in was good and hotel grounds are in a busy area… more

Check in was good and hotel grounds are in a busy area of El Monte where you have that “safety” concern. They have a security officer outside if that tells you the security of the area. Room was big but outdated. Again, this was likely at one time an apartment turned into hotel. The bathroom was likely at what time built for someone with disabilities. All in all would not stay here again given area that hotel is located. Room was clean and friendly staff.
