Location: A couples miles south of downtown on a main drag. Walking distance to restaurants. Quiet. Hotel: Modern. Big split lobby. Indoor pool. Private business center with two computers and a printer. Big well equipped fitness room, BUT 15 lb. dumb bell is missing. No remedial action by management. Internet speed is reasonable at 9.66 Mbps download. Room: Big, well appointed. Good mattress. No bar soap. Only one grab bar in handicapped tub. Staff: Professional, friendly. Christopher has a good personality. Breakfast: Well stocked and attended. BUT no granola, no cereal toppings, no peanut butter and no English muffins. Management cares more about nut allergies than customer desires. Seats in breakfast area are very low. The table top is even with a short person's sitting chest.

“Enjoyed Our Stay Here in Eureka”

Our first time visiting Eureka and we decided to stay at the HI Express. I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and spacious. Our first time visiting Eureka and we decided to stay at the HI Express. I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and spacious. The bathroom was a good size, and our location on the third floor, away from the 101 was quiet. The front desk staff were welcoming upon check in and check out. There is plenty of parking out front and the location is not too far from the historic district. I would definitely stay here again the next time I visit Eureka.

I'll start with the positives: the staff at the front desk were very nice and friendly, and check-in was easy. The lobby was clean, and it was nice to have breakfast included, although we didn't partake of much (yogurt for the win!). Now the negatives: I'm glad we were only here for one night. The hotel is in a very dodgy area (lots of homeless people, run down/abandoned buildings, etc.). We did not feel safe outside of the hotel, but we felt safe inside. The hotel only has one way in or out, and the rest is surrounded by a low wall, which I'm guessing is to help keep unsavories out, although they could just hop over it. So it looks like a compound. We were approached by a panhandler asking for money over the short wall while we were unloading our suitcase from the car (literally parked less than 30 seconds prior). During the night, there were police responding to something next door at the Motel 6, so we saw their flashing lights through our window. We were so thankful that our car was still there and still intact in the morning. The room itself was semi-ok, but definitely below our standards. The bed had 5 long, black/brown hairs on the bedspread (very easy to spot, since the bedspread was white), but the rest of room/bathroom appeared to be clean. The faucet handle in the bathroom was very loose, and one of the bathroom lights flickered on and off for the first hour or so and then stabilized. The bed was verrrrry uncomfortable (too hard), so we didn't sleep well. 3 stars because the staff were so pleasant. Will I stay here again? Nope.
