Evergreen Lodge, located close to the entrance to Yosemite National Park was a very pleasant experience and contributed to what was a top notch family trip. We stayed in the One Bedroom Cottage. There are more things to commend about Evergreen Lodge than to be critical about. The Resort is beautiful. It is quite literally a piece of history, with the first building being built in 1921. Rooms are housed in wooden log cabins nestling along winding pathways in a beautiful mini forest. This may lead to an apprehension about the amenities and comforts of the room, but the rooms are very modern and well appointed with amenities that work perfectly. There is strong WiFi both inside and outside the cabins. This is a great blessing in an area where connectivity is very limited. The room indicates that a lot of thought and detail has gone into designing the layout and executing it to near perfection. Right from the gas fireplace that looks like an authentic traditional fireplace, the wooden fans and the air conditioner, to the windows that have perfectly fitted firm nets to keep out insects. There are hooks around the room at strategic places to hang jackets caps and even the odd umbrella. The bathrooms are large, with state of art fixtures, ample storage space to keep wet and dry clothes and hot water that is so essential in such cold environs. Indoor Board games and magazines placed in the room bring a touch of warmth and a sense of being at home. Outside the room, Evergreen Lodge has a swimming pool, Recreation Room and a Laundry service room for the guests to use. Video shows and activities are on at the Recreation Room and there is S’mores, both normal and vegan, waiting to be had every evening. The F&B leans heavily towards meat based dishes, some of which could be made vegetarian, vegan and gluten free. The staff is very polite, receptive and willing to accommodate to the extent possible. However, the one convenience that the Lodge could provide is a battery charged buggy to take guests from the cabins that are scattered over vast grounds to the restaurant, reception, recreation centre and general stores all of which are around clustered in the original building which was the first to be built in 1921. The resort is very family friendly and many families come with their elders and children. To negotiate the winding pathways which dip and rise throughout the grounds can be a challenge. Secondly, while the Lodge is committed to sustainability and environmental protection, better lighting along the paths at night would be most welcome. Thirdly, as mentioned, more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu would be most welcome. Notwithstanding this, we had a wonderful time at the Lodge which truly felt like home. We hope the Lodge continues to create fine memories for its guests and we hope to be back some day!
