I stayed here on my train trip to the west coast. I had stayed at Citizenm in Seattle a couple of days earlier, and the standards Are consistent. I arrived late night, and was leaving the next afternoon, so I hoped to get some sightseeing in.checkout time Is 11am, and my train was scheduled to leave at 8pm, so I hoped To do some sightseeing. I asked about leaving my bags there, and they said no problem. I was very happy with that. The hotel is right in the heart of the city, and the staff I encountered was friendly and very helpful. I’m looking at going back in a couple of months, and I will definitely stay there again.

One does not book a CitizenM hotel (or Moxy, for that matter) for extravagance or luxury. You're booking the "oons-oons-oons" vibe, complete with neon and crisp white surfaces and teeny tiny spaces. We knew that going in, having stayed a week (a WEEK, y'all!) at the CitizenM in Rome. My master plan here was to book this hotel for the night we returned to the U.S. to give us a place to crash before grabbing the Surfliner out of Union Station back home to San Diego. Because in my head, it was only a mile away. We can walk a mile, no sweat. It'll be easy! And it'll save us money on an Uber! Y'all. I failed to see where this hotel is actually situated. Not that it's not safe, but once our Uber from LAX dropped us off, I did *not* want to leave the property that night. And neither of us wanted to wander the streets the next morning looking for breakfast, so we got to sample the hotel's breaksfast buffet. But I'm getting ahead of myself. As I mentioned, I'm sure the location is fine, but we saw some things that made my urban-dwelling eyes squinch, and my led my husband to comment about not wandering off-property. That was fine. Check-in was the same as the last CitizenM we'd stayed at: there's a table of self-check kiosks where you follow the prompts, enter your preferences and get a key. We requested a high floor with a view, and we got that. The thing that seems to take some people by surprise with this chain: every room is exactly the same. There's no requesting an upgrade, there are no suites. It's spare and basic, though they do "oons-oons-oons" it up with the iPad controls and the neon lights. You thought I was kidding, didn't you? The rooms are small, smaller even than a regular Moxy, so if you're looking for space to stretch out, you'll want to go elsewhere. This room's layout was different, in that the bed was at one end of the room, so the person sleeping closest to the window (me, it turned out) had to crawl in first, and had to crawl over the other person if they needed to shee-shee in the middle of the night. The bathroom was also smaller, with a separate - but not quite private - space dedicated to the shower and toilet, and the sink and mirror outside of that space, in what you'd call the living area. A tiny desk, a small closet, an even tinier bench and a compact counter took up the rest of the space. The bed was everything I'd wanted and hoped it'd be. There's just something magical about European mattresses, I'm convinced they're the superior build and now dream about getting one of my very own. They feature true "don't move when your partner moves" technology, which is super important to me because my husband doesn't roll over, so much as pop-and-lock his way from his left side to his right, several times during the night. I love that the European mattresses save me from that performance, and was so happy to see that the CitizenM features that same mattress type. We were only there a night, and not even a full night, at that. We checked in late, got up early-ish to eat breakfast, came back to pack up what little we'd removed from our luggage and headed out to complete our trip home. The breakfast buffet was fairly basic, but we'd skipped dinner the night before so it was tasty enough for us. We ate our fill of bagels and almost-too-dry eggs, limp bacon, pastries and yogurt. I do have to shout out the girl working the buffet that morning though; she made one of the best iced lattes I've ever had, and this is coming from a girl who'd just spent almost two weeks in Italy! It was so good I asked for a second, which I never do and of course I was jittery for hours on end after that. The lobby is comfortable and the staff is friendly. We were able to hang out for a few while we waited for our Uber to pick us up to make the mile-long trek ("we will *not* be walking to Union Station" said the pop-and-locker) to the train station.

“Pleasantly surprised, fun vibe”

I wasn’t expecting much based on some of the reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the room is small and surprisingly no cups or glasses in the room so make sure you get one from the bar. As a Bonvoy Member I got a special key and scratch off for a small prize. The small room reminded me of stays in Tokyo and I appreciated the smart use of the space. There were drawers, a small closet, mini drawer fridge, & desk. The decor was fun throughout the hotel. The light controls on the iPad were a little confusing at first. Downtown LA is not my favorite but it’s a quick walk to Little Tokyo and The Broad. There was a security guard outside the hotel and you need your key to get in after 9pm so security wasn’t an issue. I’d stay again on a short visit to LA.
