Excellent hotel in a convenient location for accessing Oakland and surrounding area. The staff were uniformly friendly, outgoing and helpful. Getting the car from the valet was time consuming but ordering ahead helped.

I wanted to take a moment to share how exceptional my most recent stay was—because great service deserves to be named, especially when it’s done with such care and consistency. From the moment I walked in, the experience felt completely different in the best way. I was warmly greeted, remembered, and welcomed back with genuine smiles. That kind of recognition isn’t required but it makes a lasting impression, and it immediately set the tone for my stay. Marlem at the front desk is truly a gem. I’m always excited when I see her there. She is consistently warm, attentive, and incredibly helpful. She brings a level of ease and professionalism that makes you feel taken care of right away. Amin, the manager, is exactly the kind of leader every hotel hopes to have. His guest service skills are outstanding he is present, solutions-oriented, and clearly takes pride in creating a positive experience for guests. You can feel his leadership reflected across the team. It’s clear that the standard he sets is carried throughout the space. I also want to highlight the bar and restaurant staff, who are always friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They offer thoughtful, honest recommendations and create an environment that feels both elevated and comfortable. It’s one of the reasons I keep coming back. Beyond the service, the property itself is beautiful modern, clean, and visually stunning, while still feeling warm and inviting. The details matter, and they get them right. (And yes robes and slippers are a must for me, and they always deliver… graciously and without hesitation.) The location is another huge plus walkable to so much in the area and an easy Uber ride to anywhere you need to go, including San Francisco. I’ve stayed here multiple times, and while no place is perfect, what stands out is how this team shows up. This visit reaffirmed why I continue to choose this hotel and why I confidently recommend it to others visiting the Bay. I’ve even noticed high-profile guests choosing to stay here and it makes sense the large local theater they all pay at is walking ditsance. The combination of thoughtful service, strong leadership, and a welcoming atmosphere makes this place truly special. Thank you to Amin, Marlem, the folks at Otto, the woman who brought me slipprts and the entire team for contiuning to create experiences that feels both elevated and human. It does not go unnoticed. This has been my little secret spot...so don't go selling it out when i'm in town lol

First, let's review the positives about the Kissel. The staff goes above and beyond to assist guests and fulfill their needs. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable -- all good things. Now, the negatives: we asked for an accessible room, and what we were assured was accessible was a disaster waiting to happen, with a knee-high bathtub, grab bars at waist height and grab bars on one side of the toilet and then behind it for some reason. The room also had no closet, chest of drawers or dresser. It had some sort of small wicker wardrobe that did not have the ability to hang clothes so that they did not extend beyond the wardrobe. If you are only there for a night, it probably does not matter, but if you need to hang clothes or put away clothes for a few nights you are left with few options. The space in the refrigerator was ridiculous -- it was so shallow, we had to lay very narrow juice bottles, from the lobby, on their sides to keep them cold. There was no room for anything other than the two bottles and a very small Ziplock bag of medicine. The reusable water bottles were nice until you try to refill them, and realize that you must fill a glass with water first and then pour it into the bottle. I don't like to use glass glasses in a hotel room -- you do not know how sterile they are, and I would rather not take my chances. So, service I would give a 100 -- room features -- a 50.
