We were in town for a vb tournament at the convention center. We could walk there (about 15 mins) from the hotel which was a plus. This is a great hotel for big gatherings, showers, receptions.. Lots of places to sit and chat throughout the lobby and lower levels. Starbucks, restaurant and gift shop on site. Elevator system is impressive. Parking is rough if you have an oversized suv. We had to park a few blocks away in a completely different garage. The hotel room itself was a disappointment. The room we had was tiny with double beds. I can’t believe a luxury hotel doesn’t have queen beds! The room was very clean but we did not have a good nights sleep for the 3 nights we stayed. The lighting wasn’t very good and our room felt dark. The bathroom got so steamy despite short showers. We could hear everything too- people talking loudly and kids running/yelling in the hallways late into the night. The people above us must have been doing gymnastics. We were really looking forward to this hotel and the room just fell short. I would choose any other room than one with 2 double beds.

The best about the hotel is the location. We loved being close to all the beautiful buildings and monuments. The check in was slow and unfair. It was a big line, one of the check in ladies came to our line and took people behind us to go to a different window, and they got service before us. The room was dirty. I called downstairs, no one came. Then after dinner I asked someone again and then two ladies came, took pictures of the hair in the bathtub and toilet, stated that our room wasn’t clean! How in the world the employees could check new guests in without checking if the room was clean or not, that’s beyond me. Then, the room was small. Two double beds for 3 people are not enough. My son fell from the bed, because it was no room for two on one bed. No garbage bin was in the bathroom. The air conditioning was making squeaky and other loud noises every time it started. And honestly, I didn’t feel appreciated or welcomed. Lacking customer service big time.

This is the third time I have stayed at the JW Washington DC. I was greeted kindly and thanked for being a Bonvoy Gold Elite member. The elevators seemed to have received an upgrade and they are the ones that you put your floor level in outside of the elevator and it tells you which elevator to get in to. Once I got to my room on the 12th floor, I was disappointed to see that there was zero view. This hotel is at the back entrance of the White House and there is always a lot of action with a street view. This could go both ways. There was a State of the Union and from my room, I couldn't hear a thing. Sirens will chirp until 1am on SOTU nights. People were complaining about this. So, if you want a good night sleep without action, ask for one of these rooms without a view. I would have loved to have had a view and would have gladly tolerated the sirens. I will ask next time. It's fascinating to watch from a Birdseye view. Anyway, the hotel itself was okay. Its starting to show wear for a JW. Room service was within 30 minutes. I ordered online. The food was okay. The little giftshop / store is EXTREMELY expensive. I paid $20 for a small box of Tylenol and $14 for half of a chicken wrap that wasn't very good. But they do have a good selection of amenities that you may need while traveling... just be prepared to pay. There is also a CVS not too far. You are paying for the location of this hotel. What I do want to point out is something that concerns me... almost leading me to rate this stay much lower. I was traveling with a colleague that has (within the last 2 years) developed a severe reaction to shellfish. We went to dinner nearby and came back to hotel around 9:30. She began to swell up and if you have ever had this allergic reaction, you know your mind and body go in to survival / panic mode. Although she didn't order anything with shellfish (obviously), there must have been some cross contamination. When she started to feel the tingle, she realized she did not have any Benadryl. That is not the norm for her. And since this is a newer reaction, they have not prescribed her an epipen yet. She immediately went down to the shoppe to purchase some Benadryl but the shop was closed at 10. It was a few minutes after ten. She went to the front desk, swollen, progressively getting worse and asked if there was ANY WAY to get Benadryl. They said no. Store is closed. She said she was aware of that but she was getting worse and CLEARLY swelling in her face. The lady just looked at her and shrugged. My colleague continued pleading and asked for a manager. Manager came out and went to "try" to get some and came back and said no. Shop is a third party and there was nothing they could do. Not thinking about using her phone to look at a map to try to locate a pharmacy, she asked if there was a CVS nearby or some place to get Benadryl and the lady just shrugged and said she didn't know. Zero attempt to help, zero effort to locate meds, zero suggestion or offer to call 911. Her tongue was swelling and her face was obviously impacted. Someone in our group, staying at another hotel, had Benadryl and was able to get it to her within about 10 minutes. All of this to say, if having a medical emergency, this is not the hotel I would want to be staying at.
