“Don’t sleep on this place”

Fantastic hotel from beginning to end…suites are nicely laid out. Most comfortable bed ever.

I just wrapped up a five-night stay at the Conrad. I had booked an oceanfront suite in the hotel proper. When I arrived, I was told I was upgraded to a larger ocean-front suite on the residence-side of the property. The room itself was fine, but that side of the property has a strange feel to it. The building corridors feel stark and unfinished. There is literally nothing on the walls or floors. Just white paint. No art. No wallpaper. No carpet. No furniture. Very odd and uninviting. Hotel services on that side seem lacking as well. During my five nights, my room only got daytime service once. To be fair, there was one day that they called me on the phone and asked if I wanted service. I declined. Every day when I was out of the room, I did press the "service" button for the door which I assume alerts them that the room is ready for service. That procedure seems not to work well. I did receive turndown service a handful of times but not every night. It just seems that the residence side of the building is an afterthought as far as hotel services go. Personally, I would not accept a room there in the future. Another odd thing: The fire alarm went off on day one advising everyone to evacuate. I don't know if the alarm affected the entire property or only the residences. In any case, since I was on a low floor and didn't see/smell smoke, I decided to stay in my room and see if it was a false alarm or a legitimate alert. The alarm rang twice...and then stopped. There was never an all-clear announcement or indication of it being a false alarm. Isn't that standard procedure? On the plus side, check-in at the property was friendly and efficient. Also, I had lunch at one of the on-site restaurants...Takato. It was very good both times and the staff very friendly. Conclusion: I will return to the Conrad Fort Lauderdale in the future, but I will no longer accept any room on the "residence" side of the property as services there seem to be sparce and an afterthought.
