“Nothing fancy but OK”

I stayed here for one night while visiting friends in Ft. Lauderdale. The reviews are mostly correct. It is a no-frills, "bare bones" hotel. I stayed here for one night while visiting friends in Ft. Lauderdale. The reviews are mostly correct. It is a no-frills, "bare bones" hotel. But it was clean and, despite the sketchy neighborhood, it felt safe. The real star of the show was Portia. She checked me in and was very friendly and outgoing. I checked in online beforehand but when I saw no customers at the desk, I went ahead and checked in with her. I'm glad I did because she is a great Ambassador for the hotel. She also gave me a little "welcome bag" with 2 bottles of water and a bag of chips. She also informed me about the "Circuit" ride share, similar to Uber but free if it's within a 5-mile radius. It worked great! Only a few weaknesses: While the room was quiet, clean, and spacious, there was nowhere to put clothes. No bureau, no drawers, no closets. I don't mind hanging clothes on the hooks they provide but things like causal clothes, socks, underwear etc. would be out for the whole world to see, so I just left all that in my suitcase. Management, please consider putting at least a few drawers in the rooms. I also wish there had been a small safe in the room. I usually lock up things like my laptop, extra cash, jewelry, in the safe but there wasn't one. They should really invest in them. Even the "cheap places" usually have them. The bathroom was fine. I saw a few stray hairs in the shower that clearly weren't mine, so housekeeping needs to be more thorough. There was also a little bit of mold or mildew on the ceiling of the shower. Oh, and it took forever for the shower water to get hot. But once it came, it was nice and hot. Unless you are starving, I would steer clear of the breakfast. It would have been nice to have some sort of cooked eggs, even if only scrambled. This place has some hard boiled eggs and "egg white frittatas," which had been sitting there for too long and had the consistency of rubber. Even the bacon had an odd consistency. So I just grabbed some cereal and headed back to my room. I didn't use the pool but it looked very nice from my window. Oh, the windows were filthy. I wonder if there is any way to clean them from the outside. I was in room 907 and the dirty windows ruined what would have been a decent view. But overall, the hotel was fine. I was just there for one night, so it suited my needs. I would consider staying here again in the future. The employees were consistently friendly and willing to help.

The stay was not a very good experience; the location was near a terminal with many homeless people around. The room looked modern, but the bathroom wasn't clean—the paint in the shower was peeling, and the trash can was an open-style bin (meaning the contents were exposed). There was an ice machine in the hallway, but it had no ice. Breakfast was poor and lacked variety; also, the staff really ought to speak Spanish—after all, we are in Florida.
