We had a pleasant stay at Dunns Josephine. This is an old, historic building, but renovated and kept up well, with great decor. One of the best aspects is the free parking - almost impossible to find in downtown Miami. There were a few spots in a public parking lot that had signs saying they were reserved for Dunns Josephine guests. Yes, there were a few suspicious-looking characters in the parking lot, but it seemed about as safe as what you'd expect from a big city downtown. (And yes, the car was fine when we checked out). The staff were very friendly. We had originally booked a double queen room, but there was some construction going on near it or something, so they offered to move us to the Josephine Baker room (one king bed). which was a very nice room. Lots of Josephine Baker-related artwork on the walls, and a little book where I learned a little about Josephine Baker. (I saw in another review something about writing down your credit card details on a piece of paper - maybe they've since upgraded a bit, as we didn't experience that - just tapped my card on the reader). The room was very clean for the most part. There was a random hand towel on top of the shower curtain rail - not sure if it was clean or not so just left that there. The curtain itself was sort-of clean. There seemed to be a few amenities missing that you would normally find in a chain hotel - there were no cups in the room, so my wife used some tupperware to make tea in the microwave. No coffee maker, hand towels (except the questionable one mentioned above), or kleenex / tissues. The bed was comfortable and we got a good night's sleep. The Wi-Fi also didn't seem to have a good Internet connection, although I was able to use xfinitywifi on my laptop being a Comcast customer. Breakfast was mainly pre-packaged items (donuts, honey buns, oatmeal, breakfast bars, etc.). They had what looked like hard-boiled eggs, so we took two of them. We discovered that one of them was actually raw. So my wife decided to scramble it and microwave it - and it actually worked. So on the plus side, we had scrambled eggs for breakfast! They did have bread and a toaster by the hot water, but strangely no plates, just bowls. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. As long as you don't expect the big-box chain hotel experience, the place is very nice! And the price was amazing - around $150 / night and including free parking, walking distance to Brightline Miami Central - hard to beat that.

“Small boutique hotel with tons of history. ”

I had an early Monday appointment at UM Medical Center and we decided to stay near the medical center Sunday night. I had an early Monday appointment at UM Medical Center and we decided to stay near the medical center Sunday night. This hotel is one mile from UM and appeared to be an economic alternative to other hotels. We were a bit concerned about the location and it's the only reason this is not a five star review. The area is being revitalized and there aren't a lot of restaurants open or activities in the immediate area. However, the hotel itself is a real historical gem. Toni at the front desk was wonderful and gave us a great history lesson and the artwork throughout the hotel and in the room was amazing. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room and it was very clean and comfortable. We were able to park on the street right in front of the hotel. We walked down to the House of Wings on the corner for dinner and felt very safe. Coffee, tea and prepackaged breakfast items were available in the morning. We will stay here again!
