“Could’ve Been Better. Inconsistent.”

We’ve stayed here quite a few times over the years, and sadly, it’s no longer a happy, welcoming environment. We stopped here for a couple nights to break up our long road trip home from Disney World. When we arrived well after the published check-in time, our room wasn’t ready, even as diamond members. We weren’t offered any upgrades, complimentary beverages for the inconvenience of waiting, luggage storage, or even pool access. We booked a gulf view two-queen junior suite with a bunk bed. On our way to our room, we saw fallen ceiling panels on the floor and trash spilling over the receptacles outside the elevator. When we finally reached our room, we were appalled to find that the bedding had not been changed on the bottom bunk in the corner nook. We lifted the comforter to find sandy, gritty, and wrinkly sheets. I called the front desk, and we were was asked if we wanted to move to a different room or have a housekeeper come change the linens. My family had already started unpacking and taking turns in the bathroom. Plus, we were so exhausted that we didn’t want to pack up all our belongings and move or have anyone come to our room to service it at that hour. Instead, we all shared the main bedroom space for the evening, and a service recovery credit was offered to us. We graciously accepted it (even though we had to remind the front desk agent at checkout to make sure that it had indeed been applied.) The next morning, a housekeeper was scheduled to change the linens, and my little one was happy to be able to sleep in his own space. In spite of that hiccup, the rest of our stay was just fine. It wasn’t anything to write home about. The staff members all seemed to be busy and simply going about their work. No one was downright rude, but no one was memorably friendly either. Breakfast was just fine. The pools were over chlorinated or discolored, and the bottom steps leading to the beach had a nail sticking up. Fortunately, it snagged on my son’s flip flops and not his bare feet. We immediately reported it to someone, but it was still sticking up on the wood grain the next day. There were plenty of dining and shopping options within walking distance. The beach itself was also lovely in spite of the increase in seaweed presence. As for the hotel itself, I expected the service and amenities to at least be up to par for the rates we paid. I was very disappointed.
