Overall, the hotel was fine. We usually stay at the Homewood Suites Magnificent Mile but I decided to stay closer to the river this time. The staff at the front were lovely and so kind. Ann was a doll. I regretfully didn't get the young man's name, but he was so kind as well. The hotel needs a bit of a facelift, but overall it is comfortable. The shower is a tub, which is fine, but the bathroom was weird. It was a large bathroom, but the sink was outside. I don't love this only because I would prefer to wash my hands before opening the door. The room was comfortable with a separate bedroom and living room area. The refrigerator opened weirdly in that it should have opened from the left, but it opened from the right, so it was awkward, and we had to move the chair out of the way. Having a kitchenette with a larger refrigerator, even for two nights, is awesome. The location was fantastic. A block from Michigan Avenue, right by the river. Can't beat it. Eataly is around the corner. Breakfast was pretty standard but no waffles. The staff at breakfast was great. Very pleasant and helpful. Elevators were not nearly as slow as I expected with a large hotel in a big city on the weekend of the St. Patrick's Day Parade. As an aside, I had no idea the parade was that weekend when I booked, but if you are interested in being there for the parade, the location is great!

“Very Good at Surprising Price”

First things first: For $160/night tax included, you can’t beat this. Overall it’s a very good place, and an incredible bargain at that price (on the Hilton app, no less). Arrived around 1:45p and was given the key to my room with no early check in fee. Front desk lady was very pleasant and welcoming. On the app I’d selected a 12th floor room at the east end of the building. Of course there’s city noise but the rest was quiet. One bedroom suite (same price as a studio, go figure) was roomy enough—not huge, but great for a major city, and way better than a broom closet. It was also clean, including the glasses and utensils in the full kitchen, some of which I used. TVs in the living and bedroom. Lots of hot water and pressure. There’s a guest laundry on 7 with two washers (one broken as I discovered after investing a box of detergent and $3, but the front desk made it right). Two dryers, also $3 in quarters. Excellent location, a block to CTA Red Line, plus many bus routes. Jewel-Osco supermarket at State and Ohio. Usual hotel breakfast. Only went one day. Surprisingly good hotel coffee. Friendly lady kept everything full and the tables cleaned. But this hotel needs a little TLC soon. The plugs at the kitchen table in the room didn’t work. Elevators look banged up. Small stuff like that can multiply fast. Still, wouldn’t hesitate to return at that price.

I’ve stayed at this Homewood Suites at least 6 times. The location and proximity to things to do is exceptional. Lots of good restaurants nearby, 2 movie theatres, a real theatre, high-end shopping and plenty of cultural opportunities. The hotel itself is a little dated, but the staff is warm and welcoming. They appreciate you as a guest. A clean, comfortable, safe place to stay. Tip the staff. They aim to please.
