Great stay. I'm a pilot, traveling with family. Location walkable to major tourist attractions in town, excellent breakfast, clean comfortable rooms, friendly and accommodating staff. Free airport shuttle by arrangement. Highly recommend.

I have three important criteria for lodging regardless of whether it is a quaint Ma-and-Pa motel or an international 5-star resort: 1). Am I physically safe on the property, 2). Am I physically comfortable on the property, and 3). Would a reasonable person conclude that I got what I paid for, in other words, “Value.” The Best Western Helena Capitol adequately meets these but with some caveats. I stayed at the Best Western Helena Capitol, 26 March 2026, due to its proximity to state government offices. I believe the hotel was a former Ramada Inn hotel. Best Western acquired the property and has enhanced its appearance and quality. It has covered access to an attached casino and bar. This seems from the Ramada Inn days. Two things I noticed: They have a 48-hour cancellation time if you must cancel a booking. Also, front desk charges a $100 refundable “incidentals” fee. This was a surprise as no one told me when I telephoned for a reservation. I don’t like this as it always seems a veiled way of saying “damage fee.” Other than that, check-in was flawless. Safety. The property is in a safe area of Helena, MT. Parking lot is well it. Although it is a block from a main thoroughfare, it is quiet. Restaurants are within walking distance. Nothing out-of-the-ordinary or suspect properties nearby. I did not notice anything out-of-the-ordinary with the attached casino and bar. The hotel has internal access to rooms with coded key cards for room and after-hours access to the building. My room had decorative metal door with deadbolt lock and hinged bar for security. Comfort. The twin queen room I had was not spacious, but modern, comfortable, clean, with no smells or stains. It has the largest wall-mounted LCD television screen I have ever seen in a hotel. The bathroom with tub /shower is small and not that efficient. The sink is at an angle to the mirror. Odd. I haven’t seen this anywhere. Several of the built-in USB ports on lamps did not work. Be careful if you have to charge devices here. The hotel has WiFi but I did not use it. The hotel lacks signage to show where things are, such as vending machines, ice machines, etc. You must walk around to find things. Not efficient to find things. The hotel has a continental breakfast that needs attention in an unused previous conference room. The breakfast and area seem an after-thought. I walked in, looked around, got coffee and departed. The hotel needs to decide what it wants to do with its breakfast for guests. Value. For off season I paid $175 per night, one person, two queen beds, with Best Western Awards discount. I think the price is on the precipice of being too expensive for what a person receives here during the off season. All-in-all it was acceptable for one night. For multiple nights I would check other hotels. I wish Trip Advisor would allow a "one-half" rating as in, 3.5 or 4.5. I don't think this hotel deserves a "3 rating" but a "4 rating" I conclude is too generous.

Dani, Kristin, & Rob made what could have been an ordinary stay an extraordinary one. Of course they were professional, respectful, friendly, & helpful. Moreover, these 3 provided what was truly valuable to me on this trip: enjoyable and substantive conversation. They shared their authentic life wisdom & experience sans artifice (also without cussing), & they listened to me share mine. It wasn't the case that "I needed to talk". No. I simply needed the nourishment of regular human interface with intelligent adults. They each said beneficial things that I will carry forward in life. Dani also gave me the gift of sharing hearty laughs. She's so much fun! She is — along with Kristin & Rob — truly an asset to Best Western.
