It's in a really great location and a very comfortable stay, but I want to give a special shoutout to Valerie at the front desk who so very friendly and welcoming.

The Capitol Hilton is located in the heart of downtown. It's a clean, well appointed and updated facility that places you in the middle of most everything the town can offer well within walking distance. Everyone on the staff was professional and obviously seeing to our comfort. Our room on the fourth floor was spacious and comfortable. Great room temperature regulation, near instant hot water with solid steady pressure were noted at this upper level. While we were facing the road the traffic noise at our level was hardly noticeable. Our bed was toward the firm side and extremely comfortable. Evening cocktails and dinner can be had at the lounge and breakfast is delicious and priced fairly leaving you full for the Morning. Gated parking is located directly in back however I think that the 12 dollar for 24 fee is excessive. Reading reviews, I noted that a few reported they did not feel safe in the lot- I do not agree with those comments. My only minus score concerns the elevator, it is small and cramped. When using it if carrying baggage with a companion, do not permit another to enter as you would find yourself extremely cramped. One guest pushing a baggage cart asked to enter and my Wife flat out bluntly told her no. This was not about being rude so far as I was concerned. There is another elevator on the far side of the building that is tagged out of service. I have read that this has been so for quite some time now. In my opinion, management really needs to step up on that already as one small elevator serving a complex of this size is a stretch.

“Pleasant Hotel in the Heart of Montpelier”

I'd give it a 4.5 stars if I had the option. The best thing about this hotel was its location. Arriving by bus from Montreal, it was only a 1 minute walk from the transit center to the hotel. I didn't even need a car for the entirety of my stay. I visited the State Capitol and the Vermont Historical Society Museum, as well as enjoyed hiking in Hubbard Park, all in easy walking distance. A significant variety of restaurants and cafes were accessible within 5-10 minutes of strolling. Breakfast is not complimentary and the fitness center had stationary bikes and treadmills rather than a cross trainer. They have a small elevator. Capitol Grounds Coffee is close by and good if having a strong coffee is important to you. The staff was very friendly and the room and bathroom were of the standard one would expect from a Hilton property, quite comfortable and clean.

The Capitol Plaza is in an old building right in the heart of Montpelier, within walking distance of everything downtown. Although it looks charming on the outside with the red bricks and grand entrance, the rooms are pure Hilton--corporate decor. They are pretty standard and bland rooms which could use some updating. They impressed me with their service, proactively contacting me when their elevator broke down and asking if I still wanted a room on the upper floors, or a room lower down. I appreciated that. Note that they have a parking lot behind the hotel, off Taylor St. It's the gated lot, not well marked, and they charge $12 per day.
