We had a room on the second floor, King bed, towards the back of the building. The countertops look like they'd been wiped down, the towels were clean, and the bathroom was reasonable. That's where the housekeeping effort evidentally ended. The floors everywhere but in the bathroom were filthy, to the point where the dirt accumulated on your feet , so much that you left dirty footprints in the shower when you went to shower off. However, housekeeping was quick to bring us extra towels when requested , and we used those to wipe down the floors, which solved the problem to a great extent. We found a couple of beads from someone's broken necklace scattered in the corners of the room, and a chicken bone next to the trash can , where someone had missed. The drawers had not been wiped out in some time, to the degree that I did not want to put any of my clothes in the drawers, so I used the shelves under the coffee maker instead. And the bedspread had a 2×3 inch grease spot on it, but it was only on the top sheet, snd didn't go through to the blanket. All that said, we were as far away from the street as possible and got no road noise. Out the back was a tranquil stream next to a small stretch of woodland with trails that you could walk. While there was a little bit of scattered trash on the stairway and in the parking lot, it seemed no worse than anywhere else we visited during our ten days in New Jersey. The bed was perfectly serviceable and relatively comfortable, if a bit firm. The only smoke smell we encountered (thankfully - my husband has asthma) was someone smoking pot outside downstairs on our first night, and not again. No visible bugs for our entire stay, and believe me, I looked. No police, no fires, no problems with safety. The front desk staff were ALWAYS pleasant, friendly, and helpful. They also seemed aware of the housekeeping issues and said, "we're working on it". Hopefully that's true, and it will be better next time we stay. Because we will probably stay again in the future, as it's the only Best Western in the area and my husband has Diamond Select status. If it hasn't improved, there's always extra towels.
