We're tourists from Australia in our mid-60s, and we were a bit apprehensive about staying in Manhattan almost 20 years since we were last here. I checked the 4 places we'd previously stayed in (including the Waldorf Astoria in 2003) and prices were through the roof. I found Hotel Scherman on-line, and had to pay the full amount up-front some 8 months out, but I was prepared to do that to secure a room that I thought would be acceptable. Communication with the Hotel leading up to our check-in was really good - and thus comforting. When we got there (a little early - flying down from Canada), Jerry at the front desk was great. Our room wasn't quite ready (say 30-40 minutes out), but he offered to look after all of our luggage, hand-luggage too, and have it delivered to the room (and it was). Jerry also said that we could be upgraded, provided we were okay with 3 flights of stairs. Stairs are no problem for us, so we said "Yes, please!". When we saw our room, it was far from the dark and pokey broom-closet I half expected. It took my breath away! We loved it. It was like a suite, not a room. Very large; bright and airy; good sized bathroom; well appointed. It was sensational. So much space - it even had a fire place and soo many windows! Comfy bed; strong wifi; TV; fridge; coffee-maker; chairs, desk, small table... A continental breakfast was included. Now I've had a "continental breakfast" in US hotels before - and a cupcake plus an apple, this was not. It was a massive affair, with cereal, pastries, toast, yoghurt, hard-boiled eggs, fruit... a brilliant start to each day. The staff were lovely too. I can't say enough good things about the Hotel Scherman. It really did exceed my expectations, and that rarely happens! Highly recommended.

“Hotel Scherman... Best place to stay in Manhattan!”

My daughter and I just spent a few days in NYC at Hotel Scherman and we were delighted! My daughter and I just spent a few days in NYC at Hotel Scherman and we were delighted! This boutique hotel is charming, the rooms are large and decorated beautifully, the staff is so helpful and friendly and the morning breakfast was fantastic! But the very best thing about the hotel is the location! It's located on restuarnt row within a couple blocks of all the theaters! And when I said the staff was friendly, they even left a package of fine chocolates for my daughter when they found out it was her birthday! What a personal touch! Both of us loved our stay and agree, we would love to go back!

“No frills hotel close to Times Square.”

It’s an ok, clean, no frills hotel. Decent sized rooms, and a great roof terrace, that you can relax on but no bar or service. The lobby is very poor and we did wonder where we had come to on arrival, but the rooms were ok. Plenty of local restaurants on the street outside, including excellent pizz… more

Not sure we would return as better options in the city.
