This hotel was excellent for the price, less than $100 per night in New York City, and four blocks from the 125th Street Station. The front desk attendant was friendly, and the check-in process was easy. There is complimentary Wi-Fi. There are single and twin rooms, which are very clean and approximately the size of a college dorm room. There were outlets everywhere, which is a plus. Desk, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker, and small in-room safe were all clean and in good order. The bathroom was well-lit with a good number of towels and the usual giveaway toiletries. The front desk attendant and one of the housekeepers both told me to just call or ask for more towels if needed. There were more than enough hooks and hangers for clothes. The only drawback (which wasn't a problem for me) is that since the hotel occupies an old brownstone, there are about sixteen short steps from the street to the main door and then either either twenty or so steps down to the ground level or the same number up to the third floor. Comfort and cleanliness were what I was looking for, and I found it in East Harlem.

This is a great option for a budget conscience traveler. The room is barebones, which you would expect at the price point, but it's clean and comfortable and has everything you need. The location is pretty good -- in a residential section of Harlem with the bars and restaurants are a couple blocks away. If you're arriving after 6 pm, they give you instructions to get your key from a lockbox. The process was smooth. Obviously, this is a budget hotel, so you have to go in with that expectation. Would definitely stay here again.

Let me start with the hotel itself: the rooms are small, but neat and clean and the hotel is great for a (short) city trip in New York. The people at the reception are very friendly and it is possible to leave your luggage. The beds are nice, but small. I'm only 1.75 tall and the bed was too short for me. Keep in mind that there is little to no space to store your belongings/suitcases in the room because it is small. Please also note that there is no elevator and that you have to go up/down high, narrow stairs with your suitcases. Finally, the hotel is very very noisy: when the neighbors talk at a normal volume, you can literally hear what they are saying. In addition, a train passes by the hotel which you can hear very well. If you sleep with earplugs you will not have any problems with this. Considering the price of the hotel, I think this is a fine hotel for New York! So I would recommend it, but keep the above things in mind! THE NEIGHBOURHOOD The biggest disadvantage of the hotel was the location. Of course, the hotel can't do anything about this, but it really did affect our experience, so that’s why I want to mention it. The street of the hotel is neat, but as soon as you walk further into the neighborhood to go to the metro you don't feel safe. The neighborhood and the restaurants on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard are dirty and impoverished. Many junkies hang around the entire neighborhood and the metro stations, shouting a lot and exhibiting scary behavior. As a result, it often does not feel safe to be here and we often did not feel comfortable (also in restaurants). My tip is to only take the nearest subway at 125th Lexington (green line) and not to hang around in the neighborhood and not to respond to the junkies. When you do this, it's okay for the price you pay... If you want a little more comfort and a quiet, safe neighborhood or if you are traveling as a woman, I advise you to pay more and stay in a different neighborhood.
