I attend this hotel regularly for work and a while back I gave it a bad review which was probably done on a bad day for myself out of frustration. Truthfully the issues I stated are not deal breakers and mostly fall on ownership’s responsibility which yes is a big deal but the staff do their best to make up for it so I think they deserve a better review for the hard work they do to make everyone’s stay enjoyable. Look no hotel is perfect and if you nit pick enough and go searching for the tiniest of issues you might find them and truthfully that’s what I did. But over all this hotel is fantastic let me tell you why: The Location is 15 mins from both southport and oak island so it’s a perfect central location for access to both locations! Southports has plenty of locally owned restaurants a couple of good ones are Dry Street Pizza and pub, & Fishy Fishy Cafe. The staff are kind and attentive and always willing to help. They have switched me to better rooms on more than one occasion following an issue with a room. (I come here a lot so no room issues are not a frequent occurrence) The maintenance crew is on top of repairs should they be necessary. The maintenance guy is super nice too he check out a broke A/C in my room once and once he realized it would take a couple days to fix he had the front desk switch me to a new room. The housekeeping staff always do an excellent job I’ve never had a room that didn’t feel clean. The beds are comfortable and they include “soft” or “firm” pillows and are labeled as such. I can’t speak to the pullout sofa but we all know that there are few that are hugely comfortable so we won’t found that in the review. The noise level has only ever been an issue to me if the room next to me has kids or a dog/cat that won’t shut up. It’s only happened once over the 6-7 months that I’ve repeatedly stay here. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked with fresh towels. And the front desk has travel sized bathroom supplies ant the ready if you need them things like shaving cream, razors, combs toothpaste stuff like that. Also the showers are always running nice and hot! The new General Manager is fantastic, always takes care of any complaints you might have, and always makes you feel welcome! If you ever need anything Patty is more than happy to help! She’s such a sweet heart! If you’re looking for a quiet clean comfortable location with amazing staff this is the place to be.

“Great experience”

Everyone was so friendly! Great breakfast! Great location, pool was nice as well. Look forward to coming back in the fall. Would recommend to other travellers. Being further west on 211 route no traffic to the beach. Very nice and relaxing .

We enjoyed our stay at this clean and comfortable HIE offering a choice of foam or feather bed pillows with a great complimentary hot breakfast and an indoor swimming pool for kids. The pet-friendly water bowls welcome you and your four-legged companions into the lobby where check-in is accompanied by complimentary cookies and water. The Route 211 expansion construction out front is an inconvenience when trying to turn left exiting the hotel. My biggest negative is the road noise at night that affected our room fronting the highway; perhaps even-numbered rooms facing the rear of the hotel are quieter. I chose to run the noisy A/C to drown out the nighttime traffic passing by. The single elevator is truly inadequate for a property of this size; be prepared to share it with housekeeping in the morning. The bathroom sink basin is small and although the whirlpool tub was an impressive feature in our suite, seniors may not appreciate having to make the high step-over to enter the tub/shower. I can’t understand why they provide a scrub sponge and dishwashing liquid when there are no plates, glasses or silverware in the cabinets or drawers; what am I supposed to wash? They could apply the savings from eliminating those items to providing higher-quality tissues and toilet paper. Finally, has anybody ever stayed at a HIE where the pancake machine works properly or isn’t the source of some breakfast drama to start your day? Would like to see the staff be friendlier.
