What a beautiful Inn! Each room was unique and offered private baths, cozy beds and some with fireplaces. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast choices were fantastic. Next time I am in Pittsburgh, this is where I will stay. The area was Shady side and there are plenty of eateries nearby, felt very safe walking around too!

“Top Notch!!”

Top of the line establishment! Very professional and attentive staff. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding. No detail was missed down to treats, snacks, wine, and unlimited coffee and tea! Highly recommend!!

Hopefully I can provide some balance between the glowing and the gloomy reviews. This is a charming property in a lovely neighborhood, walkable to at least two very good restaurants and to other attractions for the avid walker. The interior decor shows good taste and attention to detail, including original oil paintings. We enjoyed reading in the living room and picnicking on the deck. We slept well in the quiet and comfortable room. The staff was personable and efficient. Breakfast let us down. The variety on offer, service, and basic quality are all good. And yet...there is a definite feeling of parsimony. The small coffee cups are filled barely beyond the halfway point; the fruit cup, while delectable, consists of a very small portion of tiny pieces of fruit; the excitement around the 'pastry' fades when the donuthole-sized portion arrives; and the one slice of (slightly stale) toast with eggs was a shocker. In sum, while projecting an image of luxury in every other way, this inn stands to improve its breakfast.

“Disappointing Stay Compared To Previous Visits”

Many reviews for this property focus on the High Tea and brunches served in the Inn’s small dining rooms rather than the experience of staying as an overnight guest. We have stayed multiple times in the Cortland Suite, but things seem to have changed at this Inn. My husband made the reservation using his Visa debit/credit card and paid a roughly 50% deposit at the time of booking. Upon arrival, when the front desk asked for a card to settle the remaining balance, I handed them my own credit card. However, once we returned home, I discovered the balance had been charged to my husband’s card instead. I was not informed that they would use the original card, nor was I given the opportunity to confirm or select the payment method. Unfortunately, we missed the afternoon treats on check-in day. We arrived at 4:30 pm and were told they had already been “cleared away.” There was no iced tea or anything available, even though treats are normally served until 5 pm. We were given the breakfast menu and instructed to fill it out and return it immediately (with VERY strong emphasis on “immediately”). I confirmed our add-on cheese and fruit plate for 7:00 pm and that we wanted en-suite breakfast delivery. (I am happy to pay extra for en-suite service and we always tip the staff.) The room was uncomfortably warm at 74°F, and the air conditioning would not turn on. I also noticed the mini-fridge that had been in the room on previous stays was missing. When I returned to the front desk, I was told to “check the thermostat setting” myself, and “yeah, we don’t have fridges.” After I explained that we had one on prior visits, the response was again, "no, we don't have them". It was a weird conversation, and felt as though I am not stating a true fact? Like I was making it up. He then tells me - if we wanted a fridge we'd have had to request it at the time of booking. I never had to do that before. Eventually, they did locate a fridge for us. The cheese plate arrived late and was noticeably disappointingly basic compared to past stays. (I will attach dated photos.) The next afternoon, we returned to our room to find shards of broken glass on the floor. My husband had already stepped on one before we noticed. We cleaned it up ourselves and did not report it. When I went downstairs at 3:30 pm for the afternoon treat, nothing had been set out. After I asked the chef about it, the front desk quickly arranged something. At this point, the Inn may want to consider discontinuing the afternoon snack if they can no longer manage it reliably. On our final morning, the en-suite breakfast order was overlooked. I called around 9:10 am to inquire, and it arrived about twenty minutes later. It was clear the meal had been rushed: several items were missing, the toast was untoasted, and the butter was nearly frozen. I had to call down a second time for the missing items, though I honestly did not want to. When we checked out, a luncheon or tea was underway in the dining room. The staff was busy serving diners and gave us only a rushed, impersonal key drop-off with virtually no acknowledgment. We left feeling like persona non grata. I considered reaching out to the Inn directly, but after receiving this level of service as repeat guests, I question whether it would make a difference.
