“Nice overnight stay”

We spent a night here and were very comfortable. It was a bit tricky getting the room temperature exactly as we wanted. Rooms were impeccably clean. It was very quiet.

We chose the InterContinental Houston for a family vacation over Memorial Day weekend. As an Ambassador member, I was disappointed from the start when my membership wasn't recognized and we weren't offered an upgrade. Instead, we were placed in a standard room that felt more like a Holiday Inn. However, after asking about my perks, the front desk agent kindly gave us access to the Club Lounge, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, our room experience went downhill. The water in our first room on the Club floor was scalding hot with no cold water at all. While engineering was quick to respond, they couldn't fix it, forcing us to pack up and move. Our second room had functioning plumbing but a severe cleanliness issue—the pillows and sheets had a very strong, unpleasant odor. Front desk sent up two new pillows, but by the next day, the entire room smelled like that same odor. It made it incredibly hard to sleep, and we left very frustrated. Pros: Excellent location near Rice University. The staff is the bright spot here—they respond quickly to issues, and the Club Lounge attendant works tirelessly to keep food and drinks stocked. Cons: Not worth the premium price tag, especially when you factor in the $20/day amenity fees (they later waived for me) and expensive parking. I will not be returning.

“Felt like a Motel, not a luxury brand Hotel”

I was very disappointed with the lack of “polish” that this hotel had. I don’t think my expectations were too high and certainly not met by a hotel that charges 250/night and $50+/day for parking. Specifically, the rooms furniture was starting to fall apart (this doesn’t happen overnight), light bulb in the lamp were burned out, ice machine on the floor was not working the entire stay, our car smelled of pot after being brought up by the valet. I don’t want to mislead you to think that I believe someone smoked pot in our car. I believe that the valet did, at some point and the smell of it from his clothes left the odor in our car from him driving it up to us. I called about ice on day two because I thought it might just be out from use and trying to get ice to our room was a multi-call process. I DID have a conversation with the manager of the day and he was thankful for the “specifics” but that was all he had to say. The restaurant food was very good but the service was so Slow. We kept joking that they were waiting for the chicken to lay the eggs who knows where they had to go to get the food for our dinner order. The location is what makes this place appealing but the service and attention to even little details seems to have gone on autopilot and they have forgotten that they are a luxury brand.
