I absolutely loved my stay. The view, the amenities, the $18 daily credit for drinks/ food at Domingo. The champagne for two on 3rd floor, the views from that floor is nice. The restaurant food was amazing surprisingly, we went for brunch and they fit me and my fiancé in last minute. I enjoyed this place, from all my stays, this is one of my top favorites and I stay at A LOT of hotels. The restrooms are updated, I love the layout of separating the bedroom and restroom by that added barn door. Everything was quick and easy, location is perfect as well as it’s near the Alamo, bars, restaurants, sight see and walking distance to the river walk. I couldn’t have chosen a better spot. Our attention was drawn to this hotel because of its solid reviews/ratings on TripAdvisor, the availability of an affordable booking and perks via Amex’s “Hotel Collection” (HC) properties, and its location along the RiverWalk. We were tourists for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, as discussed below. First, before check in day, we were contacted by the hotel’s front desk in a welcome text. I texted back inquiring whether we might qualify for an upgrade from the Deluxe King room we had booked, either due to the HC booking and/or my Diamond Honors status. John at the front desk said we would be entitled to a higher floor room but if we wanted an upgrade to a RiverWalk balcony suite, he could arrange that for a fixed additional amount per night. I thought the offer was fair so I agreed. John also noted my request for hypo-allergenic bedding and pillows. When we checked in, John had really taken care of us. Our room, #616, was a large suite, with a separate living area with couch, easy chairs, a round dining table, a wet bar with a Nespresso coffee maker, a king bedroom, a large bathroom with dual sinks and one of the largest step-in showers we’ve seen in any hotel room, and a huge wrap-around balcony that featured expansive views of the river and city in different directions. Spectacular! (See my photos) Second, we decided that we wanted this short vacation to be an active one, intending to walk as much as possible. So, instead of renting a car and then storing it at the hotel for an expensive nightly charge, we took an express bus from the airport into town. The bus only stopped a few times before it reached nearly the front door of the hotel. So convenient and for less than $2.50/person. Even better, the bus takes a loop so on the way back to the airport, we were able to catch the same bus at the same stop, just steps from the hotel. Third, our HC booking gave us a $100 hotel credit; our Diamond status gave us $15/person credit for breakfast; and the hotel’s $18/night destination charge comes with an $18/day food and beverage credit. Because some of these credits are “use it or lose it,” we had to make careful plans to take full advantage of the various credits. And when you check out, make sure to carefully examine the final folio. Even the front desk people can be confused about all of the credits so take extra time to ensure they are all reflected in your folio before you leave. Fourth, the hotel has a very good Mexican-themed restaurant on the basement level, adjoining the RiverWalk. We enjoyed breakfast, a lunch, and a dinner there. Although the seating at the restaurant is not as oriented to the river as some other places nearby, it was still comfortable and had great service. Fifth, the hotel’s location is excellent, really in the heart of the main RiverWalk zone. We found that although some hotels and restaurants are located along the river, there are extensions of walkways beyond the main RiverWalk area, so some places are more central than others. Canopy is right on the main area, within 5-15 minute walk to the Alamo, the historic arts neighborhood, and scores of restaurants, bars, shops and theaters. In fact, one of the main starting points for the popular GO RIO tourist boats that ply the river day and night is located just across the way from the Canopy’s Mexican restaurant. Sixth, the staff at the Canopy was uniformly friendly and helpful. We will highly recommend this property to anyone who asks.

Remember that conventional high floor is better does not work on the riverwalk since it’s so high you can’t see the water. The “resort fee” is fairly useful $18 towards breakfast or drinks in hotel. I’m a Hilton gold member so additional $25/day credit. Great. Domingo restaurant on the riverwalk very nice . Otro terrace bar 1 floor up overlooking riverwalk very nice with included champagne cocktail. . Valet parking $70/nt ! and we observed very slow at check out. We parked at city tower multi story $10/ day 5 mins walk. In conclusion a solid choice.
