The Von Trapp Lodge is a large, well thought out and well run resort near Stowe offering many experiences centered around the von Trapp family history and story. The staff are all very competent, and overall it's clear they have thought of basically everything over their many-decades history. For example, the main gift shop has a corner offering all the emergency pharmacy supplies you may have forgot or may unexpectedly need (nyquil, hygeine products, even a needle and thread). The outdoor center shop is very well stocked with gear. The grounds are well-mapped and trails themselves are well-marked. There are a lot of activities on-offer and it can be difficult to decide what to do and to book things before they fill up, so it is definitely worth going over the activity schedule/calendar early on and making your reservations. If you're overwhelmed with the choices you can probably ask any staff or call them. Unlike many other parts of Vermont, the Stowe area is also very rich with things to do off-property as well. In all seasons. Even Burlington is only 45 minutes away. Compared to some resorts where you are more likely to lounge around lazily all the time, this is a more active place for people who want to get out in nature. Although they still do offer massages and that sort of thing. We stayed for a two-day weekend in a king bed room with ample space. The room has all the amenities you would expect (proper coathangers, iron, dresser, mini-fridge, pen&paper, Stowe magazine, Tissues, Hand soap and moisturizer, Suitcase stand, desk, phone). It has a large bathroom with XL-size tub and two showerheads. I didn't notice or find shampoo/conditioner in the room. There is a terrace however in June there were many cicadas and flies. The wifi works well on one side of the room but was too weak at the TV/sitting area/window to be able to stream from a laptop; maybe the router is out in the hallway. On the first day, We ate breakfast at the kaffehaus (lemon poppyseed roll was great, but the hot sandwiches took some time to be made), then toured the pastures with the Highland Cows, bought supplies at the outdoor center, hiked up a nearby mountain (Stowe Pinnacle - unexpectedly difficult but worth it), and ate dinner at the Dining Room (8-9/10 food but portions are average size and maybe a bit expensive). After dinner we walked down the road to see the sheep (If you 'maaaa' just right they may 'maaa' back!) and heard the lovely sounds of what sounded like spring peepers at dusk. The second day we hiked to the Chapel with goats (for an added fee via an outside tour guide), got brunch in-town in Stowe, hiked to a waterfall (Moss glen - quick walk but sort of like many other waterfalls and full of tourists. It was neat to see some tree trunks that beavers were working on though), and we visited Ben and Jerry's. Then had an early dinner at the bierhaus before driving 5hrs back to NYC (Bierhaus was very well done and much more modern. Food was very good here as well). This is a great resort that has the feel of a proud and cherished family business. They are attentive, want to hear what you enjoyed as well as your constructive criticism, and everyone involved is clearly hard-working to make your stay excellent.

“Relax and Rejuvenate”

My husband and I are passing through the northeast snd decided to stay here. We not only enjoyed the amenities, we wished we stayed another night to take in the food and events. Hands down, this place has thought of it all. We are so impressed, we need to bring our families here again!

The von Trapp Family Lodge is just everything! My husband and I came up here about 15 years ago now when I was visiting his family in Vermont. But after introducing our children to The Sound of Music and then traveling to Germany and Austria, stopping at many of the sites seen in the film, we just knew we had to continue the adventure of staying at the Lodge. It was fantastic! Many moons ago there was a movie night with a sing-a-long of The Sound of Music. That has since fallen from the weekly schedule and I was told when booking that wasn't going to happen. But our first night at the lodge, there was a movie playing in one of the upstairs lounges and it was The Sound of Music. Kismet! We had a gorgeous room looking out on the side of the family graveyard. We took part in a highland cow tour (and purchased a cow cake to devour) before our hike to the chapel. We had fantastic warm weather and took advantage of the outdoor pool. I wish we had time for some hiking or other activities, but after a family history tour, our time was exhausted. We had German night in the restaurant and ate in the bar as well. We ate breakfast down with the cows one morning. I mean, there isn't a better experience out there. This is just fantastic!

“Mountain views”

Beautiful views and relaxing environment. Guest house is roomy and comfortable. Was clean-ish... Found previous renters toiletry items and few items of clothing. Few dishes where put away dirty.
