  • Guests at Hilton Alexandria Old Town say: I was fortunate enough to catch this hotel through one of Hilton's sales for a tournament I was attending. And I was fairly pleased with the experience. It first started before the break of dawn, literally. My red-eye landed an hour early (one of the few times you *don't* want the flight to arrive early) but thankfully the trains were up and running. Sure, it's a bit of a slog from Dulles, but it's also just 1 transfer from the Gray to the Yellow Line, so not bad at all. Of course arriving at the hotel way too early, and with less sleep than I had planned, I had to hang out in the lobby for a bit. The front desk person, I believe her name was Fatiha, was very understanding and helped me eventually get settled in my room. Many would probably say that the hotel looks tired. old even much like its name with the hallways and a little bit in the bathrooms. And sure, it certainly seems that way. But in terms of the experience itself, it was more than fine. The room felt like any other room in the main Hilton Universe, large bed, TV that you can connect your YouTube account to (amongst others) and has the weird TV Guide which makes it seem like they have their own "cable programming" or something. And it was no problem using my CPAP machine during my stay. The bathroom was clean enough (again, given the age of the building), and the shower very quickly gave me piping hot water (which is good, but also need to quickly adjust it down to the right temperature). And finally, noise was never an issue during my stay. I was a bit further away from the elevator, but even still I didn't hear much from the hallway or through the communication doors to the other room. Oh, and I had a room that faced the tracks and again, the noise from the trains never made it through (that I know of anyways). The only miscommunication was regarding breakfast. I was told early on that there was no breakfast, but you could use your $15 daily credit at the Starbucks in the lobby. They do have a bar/restaurant, but I never saw it open in the morning despite hearing later that they do offer breakfast. It didn't matter really as there is a 24-hour diner literally next door which has decent enough food such that you could just roll out of bed and go to if the hotel does indeed not have breakfast. (I just used the credit for soda/caffeine for the tournament I was attending) It's really hard to write the same kind of review for Hilton's hotels, but at the same time, it's also good that the experiences in general are positive. I definitely would consider staying here again if I return for another tournament, but would prefer the sale price I got compared to the normal member pricing, for sure.
