“Good hotel, but little things”

First: the room was nice, clean, quiet and spacious. There are restaurants and a grocery store nearby, walking distance to a bus stop. The not so great: The rate promised adjustable beds. There maybe, but I won’t take the bed apart to find the button. The container with conditioner was absolutely empty, which tells me it hasn’t been checked in a while The bar/restaurant was out of several food items. The menu also wasn’t updated, meaning drinks were several dollars more expensive than listed. Although posted in the hotel, there is no happy hour. Parking in front of the hotel is tricky, parking costs extra in a separate garage, but this is normal for the DC area. It had room for improvement, but nothing that would stop me from coming back.

The hotel has the best location being in Shirlington right across the street from The Signature Theater and surrounded by restaurants and other conveniences. The garage at $22/night is not in the building but across the street. It is the 4th floor of the Harris Teeter garage. Spacious easy parking but you do have to go outdoors and walk 2-3 minutes. The renovated rooms are beautiful and spacious. The restaurant served good choices for breakfast ($). As Diamond members we were disappointed in the service. We probably should have said three stars instead of four because we had to phone three times to get our toilet repaired and twice to get the heat on. Not Hilton quality responses for sure. We would return particularly for the location.

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in the Shirlington area recently and really enjoyed it. Other travelers had recommended it to me, and I can see why. It’s a comfortable, modern hotel with a friendly staff that makes you feel welcome. The rooms and common areas are well kept, and the location is excellent. The room was very nice with a large bed, a large headboard, a business area, a lounge, refrigerator and microwave. It has 2 window treatments: 1 for limiting light and one for blocking the light totally. Each of these work with a chain arrangement. It’s just steps away from the main Shirlington shops, including restaurants like Busboys and Poets, cafes, and even grocery stores. The whole area around the hotel seems very walkable. It feels like a nice little neighborhood rather than just another hotel strip. The one drawback is parking. You do have to pay, and the garage is about a block away rather than right under the hotel. It’s manageable, though, and, I think, the convenience of the area makes up for it. Overall, this Hilton Garden Inn is a really good choice if you’re visiting the DC area. The mix of comfort, service, and the nice neighborhood makes it a place I’d gladly recommend to others and hope to return to in the future.
