This is a chic stylish hotel in Old Town. The free trolley up King Street is just across the block. The Amtrack train stop is a block away. Stand up glass door shower gave great water pressure. We look forward to staying there again.

I was in need of above and beyond assistance from Justin who is one of the managers at the Hyatt Centric property in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Justin delivered exceptional customer service and helped me to avoid a crisis. Over more than 25 years of business travel, this has been my most memorable experience in terms of staff follow through and a hotel manager's dedication to meeting the needs of a guest. I'll also add that this hotel is ideally located. The King Street metro station is a very short walk away as are numerous restaurants and shops in charming, historic and thriving Old Town. Plus the King Street trolley is available for free.

The rooms are small, but that is generally consistent with the “Hyatt Centric” concept. What I did not like was the service at the front desk. I came downstairs to check out and waited about 15 minutes before I could even see an employee. Of course, I could have checked out through the app, but that day I wanted to make sure the bill was correct. After waiting, I greeted the employee — an African American woman who appeared to be in her 50s. She assisted me in a very indifferent and, I would say, unfriendly manner. When I asked for her name, since she was not wearing a proper name badge, she replied: “I am not obligated to tell you my name.” I then asked to speak with a manager. A tall middle-aged African American man came out, listened to my concerns with the same dismissive attitude, and simply said, “Okay.” He also refused to tell me his name. That was the end of the conversation, and we parted ways with a bad impression on both sides. I left promising myself not to return to a hotel where you pay almost $300 per night and are treated this way. Earlier that morning, I had also requested an extra bath towel for the room because there were only three towels for four guests. After waiting 30 minutes with no delivery, I eventually had to go downstairs and get it myself. I should also mention that when I arrived late the previous evening, I was not acknowledged as an Explorist member. Not a huge issue, but still disappointing. Perhaps this was just an isolated case of indifference and rude behavior, but it is up to you to decide whether you want to spend $300 per night and receive this kind of treatment in return.
