The Courtyard by Marriott - Springfield is situated in a prime location, off the crossroads of the I-95 and I-395 in the obvious area of Springfield, making it an ideal lodging option if you're in town whether for business or leisure. I selected the Courtyard by Marriott - Springfield location for a business trip at Fort Belvoir. For starters, the commute from the hotel to base (to the Kingman Gate) or the Mosby Center was on average 10 minutes, 20 minutes tops during rush hour. While there were multiple routes that were available, the fact that work was literally a "straight" shot (leaving onto Commerce which turns into Loisdale, and taking only one turn from Loisdale Road onto Fairfax County Parkway [286]) from the hotel was one less thing to stress about. From DCA (Reagan International), you're looking at an average 20-30 minute travel time, with Alexandria/Old Town Alexandria being about the same travel time (during non-peak hours). Some renovations were being completed during my stay to which I applaud since the hotel was able to manage pretty well considering the projects barely interrupted or impacted any of my convenience. With that being said, the age of the hotel and rooms are somewhat evident. Despite this, it seems like it does a great job at with the upkeep. The main lobby is rather open which opens up further to a larger, inviting lounge area with the in-house bar and cafe immediately to the right. These areas appear well-kept and clean. Other communal amenities include a small store for basic needs next to the reception desks, gym, and pool. Exiting the lounge to the back and outside of the hotel, you will find an improved courtyard with several seats and gas firepit. During my stay, I utilized all these amenities except for the pool. Despite its size, I was surprised at how robust the hotel gym was. I was able to get more than a decent workout with what they had available. For those inquiring, kettlebells, dumbbells, and medicine balls compose the available free weights - the heaviest kettle bell is at 35 lbs, the heaviest dumbbell set is at 50, and medicine ball at 8 lbs. There are two adjustable benches from flat to incline. There is a cable machine - there are minimal accessories for this however. There are also cardio machines - treads and bikes. There are some towels, but the availability depended on usage as they don't seem to get replaced often. What is also nice about the gym is that there is a water fountain with a bottle filler option (do not rely on the cups provided as you'll get wet from this). Overall, great gym for what its worth. My coworkers and I came in the early week of December. Needless to say, the weather was not permissive to sit outside for an extended period of time. Regardless, there was a night or two where I was able to sit out back and enjoy a nice cigar. The staff was helpful and nice enough to turn the fire pit on for us upon our request which made our time more enjoyable. For food, there were plenty of options nearby where I did not eat dinner at the hotel. However, I did use the breakfast vouchers which were included in my stay. Compared to other hotels where there is a light continental spread for breakfast, the Courtyard breakfast is a la carte and made to order. While different, the breakfast burritos and coffee definitely were a great start to the morning each day. All in all, I had a great stay at the Courtyard by Marriott - Springfield, and would recommend to anyone TDY to Belvoir or visiting the general National Capitol Region area.

“Room is Ok, but many amenities are down.”

I believe I had a recently renovated room which I do appreciate, as well as the early check in. Staff members I interacted with were pleasant enough. Room was comfy, quiet, and had a nice TV with plenty of channels and easy to attach your own Roku device. Wifi worked very well. However, there were a TON of maintenance issues that maybe they are already addressing since they are painting the building currently. Toilet lever kept getting stuck and would flush the toilet several times. When I arrived it was continuously running. The HVAC unit had to be kept on all the time because if you let it cycle it sounded like a bearing was loose on the motor and it would squeak. There are no ice machines where they should be. They have been removed. The elevator controls on the floors are busted and either have lights out or are attached by tape and cardboard. Elevators are very slow and I was almost afraid I was getting stuck until i realized they are just THAT slow. Pool was out of service. Bistro was not opened one night. And why charge for parking in a regular lot? I can understand if its a garage or gated, or secured? But this is just a level parking lot.

“Business”

Hassan, the hotel agent, showed great customer service while checking in. Had an issue with the toilet and maintenance resolved the issue quickly. Wish the room had a microwave

“Avoid the bistro”

Spent a couple nights for work. At the rate no complaints for the room or property standards. Clean and things worked in the gym. However the morning bistro experience ruined it for me. Slow and non attentive to the customer. More time in the back versus out front.
